Lawrence E. Van Etten

(1865 - 1951)

Born: 1865, Kingston, New York

Died: 1951, New Rochelle, New York, at age 85

Lawrence Van Etten was an accomplished amateur golf and won a number of local titles. He received an engineering degree in 1883 from Princeton University and, later, a law degree. For most of his professional life, he worked as a civil engineer and planned and developed residential projects.

He merged his interest and knowledge of golf with his engineering acumen to design a number of golf courses in the New York area. Most are now lost to history as some were abandoned and others repurposed.
