Leroy Eugene Lawrence

(1908 - 1997)

Born: Arlington, Vermont, June 22, 1908

Died: Bennington, Vermont, November 17, 1997

Lawrence was raised in Sunderland, Vermont. He attended Clarkson University and later become a farmer.

He was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives and served from 1935 to 1937.

He moved to Stamford where he continued farming and civic activities.

In 1956 he was again elected to the Vermont House, serving four terms, 1957 to 1965. He was Speaker of the House in his third term, 1961 to 1963.

After leaving government, he returned to his farm and repurposed the land with home development and turning part of the property into the 9-hole Stamford Valley Golf Club.
