He graduated in 1982 from the University of Minnesota, with a Business/Accounting degree. He played on the golf team for four years. He made All-American three of the years.Upon graduation fro college, he turned professional.

PGA Tour and Champions Tour star Tom Lehman is a two-time major championship winner and former Ryder Cup captain. In addition to his storied playing career, Lehman has blossomed into a skilled and highly sought-after golf course designer. His past design projects include the award-winning golf facilities at Verrado Golf Club and Encanterra Country Club in Arizona; The Prairie Club in Nebraska; and many more.
