Detailed description of Coldwater Golf Club

Coldwater Golf Club, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Avondale, Arizona.

Coldwater golf course first opened for play in 2000. The par-72 course was designed by Forrest Richardson.

Coldwater Golf couse's design presents a unique topography of large shaped features including elevated tees, deep swales and cascading fairways. The setting is framed by mountain views, native grasses, meandering washes and two placid lakes, as the course wanders about the nearby residential community alongside the Aqua Fria river.

The fairways are wide and rolling with perimeter mounding and slopes often creating a bowl effect. Golfers will encounter landscaped desert areas, and frequent (though not overly long) carries off the tee. The green complexes are protected by sand bunkers and mounding, with large undulating putting surfaces - some double or triple tiered.

There are 4 sets of tee boxes on each hole, with total distances and slopes playing to 6758 yards/121 slope, 6305 yards/115 slope, 5798 yards/109 slope and 5147 yards with a slope of 111 from the forward tees. As the slopes indicate, this is a user-friendly layout - but with sloping playing surfaces, strategic bunkering (25 in total) plus surrounding desert areas, this course is an interesting experience for all levels of players. Water Hazards also come into play on two holes - including the par 3 eighth - a favorite hole on the course for most golfers.

DEEP END Tees: 6758 yards, course rating 71.3, slope rating 121.

COLDWATER Tees: 6305 yards, course rating 69.5, slope rating 115.

VINTAGE Tees(M): 5798 yards, course rating 67.0, slope rating 109.

VINTAGE Tees(W): 5798 yards, course rating 72.8, slope rating 118.

UPSTREAM Tees: 5147 yards, slope rating 111.

The day started out cloudy with a little drizzle, 50 degrees, no snow and being the first one out.....Priceless.

This Coldwater Estates golf course is nicely laid out throughout the community and homes aren't intrusive to your view. With four (4) tee box's that range from 6,758yd/71.5/12 down to 5,147yd/68.6/111, you have good hole views from the tee box. Sixteen (16) holes are straightforward with perimeter bowl effect that keeps most everything, playable. The grass is full green "Tee to Green" with good yardage markings (sprinkler/blocks) from 200 yards in. Greenside grass is thick with the traps being mostly hardpan but raked smooth. Greens are good size/shape and putt (7-8) firm/true.

I played the "Deep End" tees on the Front 9 (3,177yd) because of the short yardage on this Par 36 side. With #4 Par 4 hole at 405yds and #9 Par 4 at 412yds, being the only tough length holes.

The Back 9 (3,581yd) however will wake you up in the first four (4) holes in yardage and green protection. More forced carries off the tee, full carry to the greens and grass pot bunker in the fronts. You'll get a lot of "up and down" practice if your long irons (190-160) aren't working on those 2nd shots. The #13 Par 4 at 478yd will test your game on every shot until it falls into the hole.

Enjoyed shooting 38/39 with 30 putts in 3.5hrs and look forward to playing here again.

Have played here several times, and always enjoy it. One thing to watch in the morning, though, is the kids who cut across the course on their way to school. They walk across the fairways without looking, and I have seen them pick up golf balls that were in play. Once school starts, though, it's not an issue and a fun course to play. Favorite holes #8,9, and 18.

Not exotic, but solid golf holes, some minor elevation changes, water, dog legs, transition areas. One of the best values in the Phoenix area.

This is a fun course with challenging greens and plays to many different skills levels. My only knocks on it are it's sprawled too much to be able to walk and every hole is pretty much framed by houses.
