Payson Golf Course first opened for play in 1960. The course was designed by Frank Hughes and Russell Zakariasen.

Payson's front nine is wide open and its back nine is more hilly. The greens are slow, and there is a creek that comes into play on seven holes. The course sits at an elevation of 5,000 feet and has great mountain views and a cooler summer temperature than most other areas of arizona. There are many pine trees that can alter your shots.
