Detailed description of Agave Highlands Golf Course
Agave Highlands. preciously named Verde Santa Fe Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Cornville, Arizona.
Agave Highlands first opened for play in 1997. The par-71 course was designed by Stanton McGaw.
This is a challenging course located across the beautiful Verde Valley from spectacular Mingus Mountain.
The course is situated 3,800 feet above the Phoenix metropolitan area, framed by the vast range of Black Hills that extends from Camp Verde to Cottonwood - and here, where Hogan's wash and other natural arroyos come into play, and where four lakes border the tenth and eighteenth holes, the average temperature is a pleasant 80 degrees.
Verde Santa Fe Golf Course plays to 6,021 yards from the Champion tee. The course rating is 68.7 and the slope rating is 115. Regular tees: 5,786 yards. Forward tees: 4,976 yards.
The longest hole at Verde Santa Fe Golf Course is # 9 a par-5 that plays to 533 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 2, a par-3 that plays to 136 yards from the back tees.

Greens/tee boxes were the only parts of course that were overseeded, rest was dormant, and fairways were in terrible shape. I was told that this was a temporary issue, since they just changed the type of grass. However, given the condition of the course, I felt the price was stiff: I would pay it for a course in better condition. On the other hand, it has a great layout. I recommend playing it out of snowbird season: I got stuck as a single behind several slow groups who wouldn't let me play through (I had to skip holes) then come back out of order, because the course wasn't that busy. I intend to return next fall and give it another chance: hopefully the fairways will be green.
