Detailed description of Quarry Pines Golf Club | Pines Golf Club at Marana

Quarry Pines Golf Club, previously named The Pines Golf Club at Marana and before that known as The Links At Continental Ranch Golf Club, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Tucson, Arizona.

First opened as the Links At Continental Ranch Golf Club in 1997, the course was designed by Brian Huntley and Gilmore Graves.

In 2000, following a decision to abandon the sand and gravel quarry adjacent to the original golf course, the Town of Marana and the quarry/golf course owner agreed on a plan that would reclaim the quarry. By relocating ten golf holes into the old quarry and reconfiguring 8 of the existing ones, the golf course was transformed. This desert landscaped course has dramatic elevation changes. Ten holes are located within the former quarry, mostly coming on the back nine. Some 1,000 pines were also added throughout the golf course to remove the links character.

The entire golf course plays on the short side, just 6,318 yards, but is very tight in most spots, especially within the quarry. Quarry Pines Golf Club's 12th hole is 574 yards and very narrow as it runs above the quarry to the right. The course's par 3s are especially demanding, none more so than the 12th: 222 yards to an elevated green. There are four sets of tees here playing 4,893 yards from the forward tees.

Front 9 is a 'homeowners layout' - but, fair. A couple of the fairways are a little tight for high-handicappers. Playing along side the freeway for a couple of holes can be a bit unnerving. The back 9 has a spectacular layout - well worth the wait. Lots of risk/reward shots. If you can't keep it on the fairway on the back 9..... you might want to bring extra balls. Can't wait to play this course again.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Best course in the area
