Detailed description of Arizona National Golf Club

Arizona National Golf Club is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Tucson, Arizona.

Formerly named The Raven Club at Sabino Springs, Arizona National Golf Club first opened for play in 1996. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. This par-71 course is home to the University's Men's and Women's Wildcat Golf Teams.

The golf course is nestled in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains adjacent to the Coronado National Forest. It encompasses mesquite-lined arroyos, wide desert washes, stark outcroppings of rock, and nine natural springs. The vibrant green grass of the fairways marks a striking contrast to the colors of the desert.

#2 plays 575 yards, requires a tee shot over a water hazard. The approach-whether on the second or fourth shot must avoid a wash filled with sagebrush, cholla, and ancient saguaros.

#12 is a 187-yard par three is a reminder of Arizona's history. The green on #12 was once home to a Hohokam Indian dwelling. The small pond near the tee boxes served as a watering hole for the tribe's livestock. Integrating these sites was a priority of the golf course design.

#18 requires a big decision for big hitters. From a tee box elevated 200 feet above the fairway, this 513-yarder can be reached in two. But if your ball goes left you will find the lake and a higher score. Will you go for it, or play it safe?

BLACK tees: 6,785 yards, course rating 72.4, slope rating 146

BLUE tees: 6,340 yards, course rating 70.1, slope rating 137

WHITE tees: 5,697 yards, course rating 68.2, slope rating 131

COMBO tees: 5,417 yards, course rating 71.6, slope rating 129

RED tees: 4,469 yards, course rating 66.9, slope rating 109

Go play this course. Spotted a bobcat crossing the first fairway the day we played. After playing this one I know why Annika Sorenstam is so accurate. Anything out of the fairway is lost. Don't even try to find it. Everything here pokes, sticks, grabs and won't let go. A nice change from parkland and lowland style golf.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area

Probably one of the best golf courses in the Tucson area, and available to the average golfer. We were fortunate to get a 2PM tee time on EZ links.com for the amazing price of $24.00,which was also the first tee time following a college golf tournament. The course is excellent in all areas, including difficult. A player needs to choose a tee to fit his game, as there are several forced carries where it is difficult(at best) to see where the ball lands. The only negative is that is a long drive(50 miles or more) from the Green Valley area.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level

Best clubhouse in Tuscon. They have shower facilities and a nice bar to relax after a round. The university of Arizona plays here. Bring your "A" game.
