Day 4 - 100 days, 100 courses (Sunday, March 17, 2019)

My playing partners on Day l were from Oceanside (where Arrowood is located) and they led me to believe that Arrowood was a less than an ideal course. I think the term "dog track" was used. (Now that I think about it, I may have been the one to use that term.) The fact that we were standing on the meticulous JW Marriott Desert Springs - Palm Course at the time, may have influenced their perspective.

Arrowood was a very pleasant surprise. Described by my playing partners as a poor man's Aviara (I missed Aviara while in the San Diego area), I found it to be a challenging course with lots of elevation changes and some approaches that we really ego boosting.

The round had a hectic start because as I had no assigned playing partners and I was early, I told the pro if he could get me out early that would be great. A half an hours later he bellowed at me "Grab a cart, you're up." Grabbing my cart I joined Jesse and Don on the tee box. They had already hit, so I quickly grabbed my driver and teed off.

Hectic suits me. I shot a 42 on the front and a 40 on the back. I played really well but I was so zoned in that I didn't do my job and take any pictures. I did lose two balls which brings my count to 13.

Played as a twosome at 7 am and behind 3 foursomes. But, they must have been regulars as we finished in 3 hours! The course is a very interesting layout with most holes being very entertaining. The front nine has a number of holes with environmentally sensitive areas mostly to the right. The greens were ok, a bit thin and bumpy due to recent rains and too much Poa. Bunkers had good amounts of sand and were very playable. Fairways were pure and tightly mowed hybrid bermuda. The 16th hole is a long 450y par 4 steeply downhill with a large island green. The big challenge is to hit a solid 2nd shot from a downhill lie. Nice challenging #1 handicap hole! Reasonable rates and friendly staff - good course to play at least 3-4 times per year if you live locally.

Great course. Owners take care of the course and the course seems to be in great shape everytime I play there which is at least once a week. Friendly knowledgeable, staff. Good carts and rangers believe in pace of play and try and monitor it. Only complaint i have is the greens are bent grass and do not take ball marks well. Poa Anna would be a better grass for these greens. Steve

I love this layout, many different issues to deal with depending on the hole. And i disagree with the guy who wants to change number 16. One of the more challenging holes in SD county, not just from a visual, but a challenging second shot over water and if you layup, you better bring your short game. Same can be said for 18, need a decent drive with second over water all the way. Great layout!!

I really enjoy this course. It has a fantastic layout with a lot of personality. I always enjoy playing here. My only advice would be to convert holes 15 & 16 into a par-4 and a par-3, respectively. The currently par 4 16th is a bit ridiculous and takes away from the other 17 holes.

Anyone who hasn't played this course recently is in for a treat. The Course is in excellent condition, the cost is lower than surrounding courses of this calibar and the pace of play is outstanding. The staff is very professional, pleasant and helpful The course layout is challenging, but fair, with three closing holes that test your game. This is oneof our group's favorite courses in San Diego and Orange Counties.

Really enjoyed this course for what it is. fairly easy track with a chance to score if your playing well. Wow! what a concept, a course you can score on without being on a tour. Open fairways most of the time, but enough of a challenge so you felt like you were playing golf with enough risk/reward into the greens, Always nice to have a par 4 or two you can try and drive if you hit it big. My two foursomes really enjoyed the course to a man. Price shouldn't be more than $50/$60 though

We have played Arrowood many times for years and found the course to be in the worst condition I have ever seen it. Since not being a part of the J C system it has gone downhill and staff is bordering on being rude.

Arrowood Golf Course in Oceanside is by far the best course for the price in North County -- you can always count on the greens being in good condition and the staff to be very accomodating. For those playing at least once a week, membership at Arrowood is the best deal anywhere in San Diego, based on the consistently excellent course conditions.
