Lakewood Country Club is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Lakewood, California, next to the Long Beach Airport, easily accessible from the 605, 405 and 5 freeways.
The course opened for play in 1933. The course was designed by William P. Bell.
With an abundance of new sand bunkers and several par 3's that play well over 200 yards, this 18 hole, 7,045-yard championship course was voted Los Angeles County Course of the Year in 2005 and 2012.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,045 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,920 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 18, a par-5 that plays to 554 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 181 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 6, a 453 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 15, a 363 yard par-4.
The greens are large. Numerous trees lining the fairways, and two lakes come into play on seven holes. The signature hole is #12, a 227-yard, par 3, requiring an approach shot over water to a rather small, undulating green.

Lakewood is a solid course and fun for virtually all levels of players. Plus it is a good course for younger players, as well as seniors.
Pace of play can be a problem but in many cases what starts out as slow, works itself out by the time you tee off on #6.
There are a number of challenging holes (and you don't have to play back tees, especially if you game says you should not be back there), but none that fall under the category of impossible. A good mix of Par 3's, 4's and 5's. All can be parred, all can result in a double bogey. Having a good short game is a big plus at Lakewood because you will probably hit less greens than you normally do.
Considering the tremendous number of rounds the course handles, the greens are almost always good to very good. So kudos to the greenskeeper and his staff.
Fairways can be a little rougher, but few players ever use the sand/divot mix they are given- don't be one of those players.
Range is always off mats, which is a downer considering the great weather at the course year-round.
For a public golf course, I would ranki Lakewood as one of my very favprite PGC's around. Certainly the best in the Long Beach and Lakewood area. Though both El Dorado and Big Rec are good. Lakewood is just better.

This is a LA County course and in much better condition then other county courses. So yes worth the monry to play it but it is very slow.

I enjoyed my round, but was bothered by the fact that I had to pay extra to ride in a cart because I was part of threesome.

The bunkers were too thick with fluffy sand. Greens were fast but fair. Made for a good tournament

Lakewood Country Club could be a lot better with improved maintenace practices. Unfortunately, they cut the fairways to low in the summer then let the grass burn up because of the heat. They do not water the greens enough when it is hot and they burn up also.
This golf course could be a really nice like it was about 3 years ago. Fix it raise the lawn mowers about half to one inch and we will see a nice course agian. Keep the fairways/grass longer in summer and keep the grass cool and green.

The course is over watered so the fairways are slow or prevents balls hit short of the green from rolling onto the green.
