Played in tournament so play was slow. Have played before as enjoy the layout. Coots are much better than in the past yet fairways were in poor condition. Probably more due to current drought than anything else. Is windy, near/on salt marsh, and is built on old dump. Which leads to a lot of water, if they can, to keep the grass growing! Will keep an eye on it and return in the future if can get the fairways in better condition. Is a tough course in the afternoon winds!

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

The course has a nice waterfront location. It'll be better if the course is under better condition.

Course is in much better condition than it has been for years. Some quite tricky holes, especially the par 3's in a gale! There was a shotgun scramble out in front of us, with most participants seemingly having never played before, hence a 5 1/2 hour round on a weekday, but one has to assume this is not typical.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

Shoreline Golf Links is now under new management.[Touchstone Golf] and they have made a lot of improvements. One big thing they are working on is manageing the bird population, as Shoreline is located in a bird sanctuary area. There is also high salt count in the recycled water. These problems are being dealt with, and will continue to improve. ... The course offers some very good challenges, especially the par threes over water, or hazards. The par fives are reachable in two for the very long ball hitters, but not for most golfers.

The bottom line is that the greens, even in their best condition, are bumpy, slow and don't run true. The course in general is so covered with bird poop that there is a local rule for it. The bunkers are mostly rock hard and very difficult to play out of. Unfortunately for bay area golfers all of the above is fairly normal, just because we are used to crappy course conditions doesn't make it okay. My friends and I take two, one week long trips to Arizona every year and the courses there are cheaper and in far, far better condition.

Bottom line: Average course for the area, Better courses for less nearby

The price is right for the course. But has too much bird waste on the fairway. Pace of play could be a little slow. The green has to be better maintain especially with the birds stuff. Club house needs better up to date flat screen TV. Not inducive to spend more money for refreshment after the game.

Greens had been recently aerified; they will take a week to recover. Recent efforts to control many thousands of coots (and the damage they do to the turf and aesthetics of the course) have been somewhat successful, but political correctness restrains more aggressive alternatives to just chasing the coots with border collies and eredting temporary "coot fences". Course has a "bottleneck" at par-three fourth hole, largely caused by a forced carry over water into a prevailing northwest wind, and course management rigidly leaves the flagstick in a front position about half the time, leaving the average 15-20 handicapper with a high-risk shot that often results in a water hazard penalty, and the drop area in front of the water hazard should be entitled "drop dead area".

Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

Because the course is located in a nature preserve and literally right on the Shoreline, the course can have a significant water fowl problem during the winter and early spring months. The course has taken extensive measures to reduce the population which has been somewhat successful, but there are a number of places where the birds have eaten away the grass around the greens or in the fairways. The bunkers can be very uneven in terms of condition, but when they do have sand in them, they are very playable and challenging. Generally good greens, but since poa annua they can get bumpy late in the day, could benefit from an occasional rolling which would make them outstanding.

Course plays much harder in the afternoon than the mornings due to the wind. During the winter months the rough will penalize you as it gets fairly deep with the rain. Course generally drains well.

13th and 18th greens are fairly new and roll much more slowly, but difficult to stick approach shots are greens are quite hard still. 4, 11, 17 are excellent par 3s which all play over water and generally into the wind, so club selection can be important.

They often have tournaments on Saturdays and some Sundays which can lead to very slow play (5+ hours) if you get caught behind one. Overall, I would vote it as the best municipal course in the immediate area.
