Talega Golf Course first opened for play in 2001. The course is a par 72 Fred Couples "Signature" designed championship golf course.
Talega Golf Course plays to a maximum distance of 6,951 yards for a course rating of 73.5 and a slope rating of 136.
The course is well conditioned with fast greens. Most of the landing areas are fairly forgiving, but there's still enough trouble here in the form of water, sand, and some forced carries. The front nine is more of a parkland style of course, somewhat manufactured, while the back is just built with the land as it was.
Copper tees: par-72, 6,951 yards, 73.5 / 136
Blue tees: par-72, 6,583 yards, 71.7 / 129
White tees: par-72, 6,187 yards, 69.4 / 124
Red tees(W): par-72, 5,245 yards, 65.2 / 110

The course seemed a little run down. For eighty dollars I expect better. Yes the starter does not want people to park carts next to the putting green. What's up with that??? You have to see the starter to get the key to the cart. I had to go looking for him. Not a good experience for the price.

The practice facility is a joke. If you want to hit before you play, get there an hour early, because it isn't close. The practice bunker and green are not maintained at all, not an accurate representation of any course. The bar/restaurant isn't open early, so come fed. The people staffing the snack window, can't operate the bar fully. If you are playing late in the day, don't expect to hang out and have a beer afterward, because everybody is gone. They should take a page from San Juan Hills and make the place somewhere you want to be, maybe watch a game and practice at. The course is nice and I like the layout, which is why I go, but could be maintained better, the greens coming in were a little rough, lots of bald spots and the fairways are dying off in spots. Also the starter, for some reason, saw fit to come over while I was putting and move my cart to the line up without asking our saying anything. This in and of itself isn't a huge deal, but I have $2000 worth of gear, GPS, my phone, my wallet, my keys..... How about an, Excuse me sir! For a little bit more I can play Monarch and have my ass kissed all day.

This is one of the best courses I have played in the area, especially for the price. I would rate it as one of the top courses in OC.

Pace of play is consistent, course is always in good condition. Moderate temperatures year around. Challenging but fair course. Legitimate hadicap established here.

Talega is a nice course and fairly priced. There are a few holes that are "sqeezed" into the layout but overall a good test for the average player.

I have been a member for several years and enjoy playing Talega at least 3 times per week. The layout is challenging but fair. The greens are in great shape and run true. Some of the fairways need more/better grass and some areas of the rough have clumpy grass. The greenside bunkers need work -- they are generally too wet and not fluffy, so it is difficult to get enough sand under the ball to "throw" onto the green effectively. A good value, particularly if you are a member that plays often or paying the member's guest rate.

Greens are exceptional. Rolling at 10-11.5, since they started hand watering the greens and rolling them several times a week they have become PURE! Great improvement in the fairways as well. They are now working on improving the courses one weakness, quality of sand. When wet, they are challenging and inconsistent. Course offers a good challenge, but fair. Several forced carries. Front nine test your irons and short game. Back nine tests your long irons and driving accuracy.

My favorite course in area, it is fair priced especially for over 55. Good variety of holes, use about every club in bag from Blue tees. greens make the difference in difficulty with tiers etc.

...a couple of quirky holes, but overall a good course....had rained 12 of 14 days prior to playing & they hadn't gotten in yet to mow, but course was in reasonable shape considering the conditions....not from this area, but was a little too pricey .... but that might be southern cal vs. norcal....in norcal that course would have been $55 on the weekend, not $90...

Had a great time. I brought out of town friends and we all enjoyed ourselves. I particularly liked the way the starter gave us a few 'tips' on the long par-3's (into the wind) and some other course tips. Keep it up! We'll be back.

Great design. New ownership has led to changes that will make course better in 2011. Fairway grass changed to Bermuda with rye rough area. They have shaped and tightened fairways making it tougher. There are plans to redo sand traps next year as they are a mix of crushed marble and sand and inconsistent but when dry ok. The greens are getting healthy and they have invested in equipment to improve. Still an opportunity to get greens consistent as some greens vary in speed. Course could be better marked. Stakes and painted lines are inconsistent. Pro shop has basics and average assortment, opportunity exist to improve. Resturant food is good and even though there are many wedding events on weekends, lunch menu is good. They offer a beer after the round for the price of temperature...always under a buck. Driving range is a bit of drive, save time and drive to range first as shuttle takes a while. No grass area to hit from and mats need to be upgraded. I heard they may allow grass hitting next year? Range balls were just upgraded but some old still mixed in. No food or drink at range so bring it with you if planning to practice. Practice chipping area available for short chips and sand practice, although conditions differ from course.

A beautiful layout and always a joy to play. Challenging and rewards good play as well as penalizes poor shots. The condition is inconsistent and what were once the best greens in the area for years have been inconsistent the last few times we played. The clubhouse is not very friendly and most often has no place to grab a drink or lunch due after play due to outside events. The pro shop staff is among the worst and truly are clueless regarding customer service. Lastly, the driving range is a haul to get to and they make it very difficult to spend your money even if you show up well ahead of your tee-time to warm up.

Talega is the best public course in the area - period. Layout is great. Staff is great. Great match play team. Greens have wonderful subtle breaks, but that condition of greens varies too much. GPS on carts is nice. First beer after your round is .19 cents; can't beat that.

We've played here numerous times and have really enjoyed it. Although we had a confirmed 8:00 am tee time, they squeezed in a large wedding party playing group that resulted in our not being able to tee off until after 8:20. Add in the fact that the wedding party included at least one five-some and their slow play, we didn't get off the course until approximtately 1:15. They should know better.
