Lake Chabot Municipal Golf Course -Regulation, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Oakland, California.
Lake Chabot Golf Course first opened for play in 1923. The course was designed by Willie Loch.
Lake Chabot Golf Course plays to a par of 72 and a maximum distance of 6,102 yards for a course rating of 69.4 and a slope rating of 123.
The course has lots and lots of hills. Several holes run parallel and cross a deep valley. There are a few wide open fairways, but most are well protected by trees - a test of your ability to drive straight. Holes 9 & 18 are unique in their length. 9 is a par 3, 150 with a 100' DROP. The green looks like a tea cup! The 18th is a 600 yard PAR 6 that is reachable in 2 The hole can be all down hill if hit correctly.
Holes 15 through 18 have magnificent views. From 15 you get a great look at downtown Oakland, the Bay Bridge and San Francisco. However, be forwarned that some consider this the ultimate sucker hole. Only 259 from the blues and 245 from the whites, everyone pulls out the driver at least once to take a shot. No problem. Just don't pull it, or you end up somewhere on the 16th fairway, and very O.B. Oh, and don't slice, or you might as well be in the bay. A great risk-reward hole.
# 18 is a monster finishing hole. It is a 600 yard (673) par 6. That's right, I said par 6. This is where you give back all of the altitude you have gained, 18 is straight downhill.

Very hilly and unusual layout, fun course, good views of the bay on the back nine. Some challenging blind tee shots and forced careys but still very playable.

Played on a Friday early afternoon (1PM) so I guess I should have expected a 5+ hour round. The value was good since it included a cart. People here don't seem to know golf etiquette since they were talking out loud when people were playing their shots. Maybe better to play earlier in the day.

Ok, for those who drive there for the first time. You have to drive down the middle of 3-4 fairways, a bit scary the first time. I played in the winter and the course was a swamp. We dug out plugged balls all day, but had a great time. You have to get a burger from the shack after 13, I think, I still crave that burger and they make it for you while you play the par 3. Friendly staff. I guess they have a huge net on the driving range, but it wasn't up when we went there, so only could hit 7 irons on the range. I look forward to going back this summer when it's a bit dryer.

Chabot is a pretty unique course in terms of hilliness and a few quirky holes. It's the most vertical course I can think of, even more than other East Bay courses such as Tilden, Blue Rock or Mare Island's back nine. Definitely fun to play and forgiving to amateurs in that most holes allow for wayward drives without going O.B. (although not all). Each hole is pretty unique and a couple are downright different, like the famous 18th and the very steep 9th. My buddy and I walk the course and get a great workout. I always appreciate a course that has very few houses surrounding it. All in all, a great value for the money, and they've done a lot in the past few years to improve it and make it an even better experience.

Lake Chabot is a great course with fantastic views. Wild life is evident with wild turkey, deer, hawkes, very evident in the late afternoons. The viw from the signaure hole,#15, is priceless. My only concern is the cart path, old and needs to be resurfaced.

There's no course quite like Chabot. Nearly every hole has either a severe uphill or downhill slope. The first 7 holes are rather dull, after which there are a few truly unique ones, especially holes 9, 10, 16, and of course 18. Worth a thought if looking for a good value.

You have to play it once just to take a crack at the Par 6 18th hole.

I took my son - juniors (up to 18 years) are only $5.00 - an incredible bargain. As a senior I paid only $17.00 - You cannot beat the price. The course was in excellent condition. Although there are a few uninteresting holes, there are also a few that I think are really great, especially on the back nine.
