Detailed description of Lost Canyons Golf Club, Sky Course, CLOSED 2016
Lost Canyons Golf Club is a Public, 36 hole golf Facility located in Simi Valley, California.
Lost Canyons is Ventura County's only 36-hole public golf facility. The facility has two 18-hole championship courses. They are The Sky Course and The Shadow Course. Both courses were designed by Pete Dye with consulting help from Masters Champion Fred Couples.
The Sky Course first opened for play in 2000. The Shadow Course opened for play in 2002.
Although both courses were designed by Pete Dye, they have distinctly different styles. The Sky Course flows atop the canyon ridge line and looks down on the Shadow Course which winds along the canyon floor. The topography is hilly and rocky land, but add in Dye features such as steep bunker complexes, near-vertical walls protecting greens and the need for a high degree of precision to judge uphill and downhill approaches, and the Sky adds up to a demanding challenge.
The Sky Course is a par 72 and measures 7,285 yards from the black tees. The Shadow Course tops out at 7,005 yards and also plays to a par of 72.
The Sky Course at Lost Canyons Golf Club follows the canyon ridge lines offering panoramic views from every tee box and green. The Sky Course at Lost Canyons Golf Club is one of the most challenging courses in the country.

Gold tees: 6,740, course rating 73.3, slope rating 143.
Silver tees: 6,225, course rating 70.5, slope rating 136.
White tees: 5,605, course rating 67.8, slope rating 126.
Copper tees: 4,885, course rating 70.0, slope rating 120.

Lost Canyons Golf Club closed June 1, 2016. Plans are to build 364 single-family homes on a portion of the site.

I'm shocked people have ranked this course so high. I don't want to bash it but there are other courses in the area in better shape. Clubhouse is nice and the layout is great other than that I don't have to many nice things to say. Oh and check the forecast before going the wind just howls up there. Oh and a nice range.

I play this course about once a year, and find it enjoyable every time. Customer golf, and we all have a great time on the challenging course. Accurate shots a must, especially with all the hillside layouts.

This was the first time I'd played this course and was somewhat disapointed. The course conditions were not as good as I would have expected for a course of this calibur. The fairways were spotty and the greens were not real consistant. As for the layout, sometimes it seemed a little ridiculous the shots required over hills and out of small gulles and ravines. It's not a bad course, and for the most part fun to play, and if I was in the area again and got a good deal, would play, but would not run out again and play anytime soon. I was also able to play 8 holes on the Shadow Course and found it to be more playable, and if I had the choice, would play it before the Sky Course. I just didn't find it to be the course advertised on-line and in magazines.

This course was very challenging, yet fun. The layout was excellent, and very relaxing. The course was in good shape with the exception of the greens, which were just plugged. I would recomend this course for medium to low handicapped golfers.

The Sky Course was in poor condition before the drought restrictions. The grass may look green (for the most part) but it is dry nonetheless. The Shadow course is no longer maintained, having dried up years ago, but it was the toughest of the local courses, and easily the most beautiful, both in layout and spring foliage. Both courses had and have the same problem. Watch carefully for rattlesnakes. They are everywhere. Too bad. I played both these courses when they opened, and they were both a joy, (the Shadow being my favorite)
