Diablo Grande is a Public, 36 hole golf resort facility located in Patterson, California. The facility has two 18-hole golf courses. They are the The Ranch Course and The Legends West Course.
The Legends West Course is a par 72 layout surrounded on all sides by rolling hillsides and undulating vineyards. Although the fairways are forgiving, the small greens require touch and imagination, while the deep and numerous bunkers can be punishing.
The Legends West was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Gene Sarazen. The course first opened for play in 1998. The Legends west plays to a maximum of 7,112 yards. The course rating is 74.3 and the slope rating is 143.
Jack said, "Diablo Grande has a marvelous setting for a golf course. With the existing vineyards and rolling hills, we had a wonderful canvas on which to work. The natural terrain and its movement afforded us the ability to enhance rather than create. The end results were some very unique golf holes. I thought we produced a very pretty, playable golf course in the middle of the Diablo Mountains in California. It's a golf course in which I certainly enjoyed being involved."
Gene Sarazen said, "It was a pleasure and an honor to be able to be part of The Legends West Club at Diablo Grande. To be able to collaborate with Jack Nicklaus in building a truly great golf course in one of the most beautiful settings nature could provide.
The course closed 2014, a victim of decreased rounds being played exacerbated by the California drought. The somewhat less regarded sister course, The Ranch Course, remains open.

Course was in excellent condition, including the bunkers which are numerous and well placed to capture a weak shot. Greens are true and fast, 3 putts will be a part of your round unless you hit them all close to the hole. It played slighty slow because of a frost delay. Staff was friendly and helpful. Clubhouse food and drink excellent. Highly recommended and the Ranch course also.

One of the best courses in Northern CA. One of the best designs by Jack. Requires every club in the bag. Ample fairways with difficult greens reward the golfer who chooses the correct side of the fairway for the best angle of approach. Greens have a good fast pace, but will hold a well stuck shot. In great condition year around. Not to be missed!

Great coure and loved the greens. They were very fast. The practice green is very much like the couses greens. 4 putted first hole. LOL Back nine putted 12 times. The crew works very hard to make sure you enjoy your day. Good Grub.

First time playing here. Used a golf show coupon so got a pretty good deal. Better than expected. Nice layout, good conditions, fast play probably due to Friday midmorning teetime. Played Legends which is fairly forgiving. Will be back another time to try the other 18.

love to play here and the long drive is worth it. Seldom if ever pushed and the price is right. New owners and managers are doing a very good job. Staff very friendly. If I lived closer I would play this course 2 times a week

Ever since diablo Grande has re-opened after financial troubles, the course have been coming back into the condition that they were meant to be. Hopefully the new owners will follow through with their plans for a boutique hotel and maybe some condos, to make it a true destination resort. It would be somewhere I would definitely spend a 3-4 day weekend!

Wow. One beautiful and wide open resort course. Worth the drive (200 miles for us). Check out the Stay and Play at the Best Western Villa Del Lago - we had a fabulous weekend. Legends West does not have the teeth of the Ranch course, but don't let that fool you. It's tough, delightful and requires some good course management. Staff is commendably excellent - you feel like an exalted guest from arrival to departure. Makes for a fabulous day!

Fairways are tight and hard. Layout is strange, some holes are quite difficult. Don't let the short yardage fool you..very tough course well protected greens that are hard to hold..lots of sand

A fair test of golfing skill. Frequent risk/reward opportunities. Beautiful setting in a pure golf environment. It appears that home development will ultimately encroach on the golf course.

One of the best courses I've ever played, but it's gone semi-private. (I think they allow people there on Mondays now). Definitely worth the drive from anywhere in the bay area. The only drawback is how remote it is, but the silence on the course makes that worth it.

It's a fair, challenging course, with lots of risk-reward shots. Long hitters will need to keep their driver in their bag on several tee shots.
