Ranked on Golf Magazine's Top 100 Courses You Can Play. All you need is for four Franklins. That plus a required stay at the small but superb Rosewood resort -- you get a boldly bunkered, back-to-nature layout routed through a tranquil valley and draped across rocky hillsides. Creeks and wetlands play a role, notably at the bucolic, if brutal, 573-yard par-5 third, but the design is mostly free of distracting bells and whistles.
Cordevalle Golf Club is nestled in the countryside of San Martin, California, just 30 minutes south of San Jose, CordeValle is a golf lover's dream.
The Cordevalle Golf Club golf course has unobstructed views of radiant natural beauty with dramatic contours and elevation changes, this 18-hole, 7,169-yard, par 72 golf course makes innovative use of Northern California's hillsides, canyons and broad meadows. Reflecting the belief that championship golf courses are not built just for professional tournaments, CordeValle offers an impressive variety of play. What can be a serious challenge from the back tees can become fun and friendly from the regular and forward tees. Like the world’s great courses, it takes on a different theme each time it is played.
Situated on 270 acres of gently rolling terrain in a pastoral California valley, the course utilizes the natural elevation changes of its peaks and canyons, enhanced by broad meadows, streams, striking sycamore and mature California oak trees. The land surrounding the course is part of a private preserve with over 1,000 protected acres, unencumbered by residential or commercial development.
The course features multiple tees and approach angles for varying degrees of difficulty. Strategically placed bunkers with challenging bays, fingers and folds establish the character of the course. An elevation change of approximately 150 feet over the entire 18 holes makes it walkable for the golf purist and demands different strategies and club selections throughout.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7169 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5385 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 573 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 16, a par-3 that plays to 166 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 5, a 461 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 16, a 166 yard par-3.
Mandatory caddies The Cordevalle Golf Club golf course and foursomes on foot further enhance the experience. An added highlight is the nearby Clos LaChance Winery.

Course is awesome - number 2 only to Pebble Beach in California. Caddies are terrific and the staff is beyond compare. Everyone I met even knew my name after I gave it at the gate driving in. The Frys.com PGA event will be held here in October 2010 - not sure how they will accomodate that kind of crowd, but they are certainly some of the most competent staff I have ever met. Golf is equivelent to the best the world has to offer - and although very expensive, it is no more expensive than any other course of equal status. Accomodations and food are truly world class - worthy of a premium vacation getaway...but very low key. Think total relaxation.

Cordevalle is unbelievable, but be prepared to open your pocketbook. Being semi-private, they charge $225 and it's just not worth that much. However, they often hold public tournaments to benefit their junior golf association and only charge half of that. At that price point, it's definitely a steal. Very challenging, very serene and very memorable.

Wonderful golf course, very "high end". Affordible only because I played with a member, otherwise it would have been too expensive.
