Detailed description of Eagle Vail Golf Club

Eagle Vail Golf Club is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Avon, Colorado.

The course was designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge. Eagle Vail first opened for play in 1974.

This course has mountainous terrain andy many scenic views. Because of the hilly terrain, elevation changes occur frequently, including hole #10, a 208-yard, par 3, where you tee off from a cliff about 100 feet above the green.  This course is enjoyable for all skill levels.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,819 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,856 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-5 that plays to 566 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 17, a par-3 that plays to 155 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 9, a 462-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 10, a 208 yard par-3.</p>

Vail’s muni mountain course is a joy. Not that long but a straight hitter has an advantage. Greens have not recovered from winter snow [I played in July] so there are a little patchy. Playing at 7000 ft. elevation the ball really goes. The good- scenery and wonderful staff. The bad – on the first 14 holes you hear two highways zooming along. The last few holes take you onto the mountain hill side for a special look into the beautiful Vail forest. Really nice added benefit. Because of the road noise I give it a B+.

This course will challenge your accuracy, course management, and putting skills like few I have played before. The scenery is quite nice with natural water hazards, elevations, and forests. The wildlife has included an eight point buck as well as numerous squirrels, birds, butterflies, and flowers. The electric GPS carts are the top of the line. Just an overall real pleasure to play this course. It has an intimate feeling unlike most well known professional golf tournament courses.

This is a deceptively wonderful course. The first time I played it, I was intimidated. The next time I played it, I was puzzled and intrigued. The next time I played it, I began to get a glimmer of understanding. Finally I was completely delighted. The recent construction project is done and finished, and the course is in great shape. It's not long by mountain standards (high altitude, long carries, yada yada), playing only 6538 from the tips. This means two things, obviously: 1) The par 5s are reachable in two if you hit a decent tee shot, and 2) accuracy is a big deal. There are three holes with elevated tee boxes: #1 and #18, both par 5s, both with room enough to tee it high and let it fly, and #10, a par 3 from dizzying heights. There are straightforward holes that overpower you with brutish length. There are strategic holes which demand precise well-placed shots, and there are a couple puzzle holes, where you really have to have played them a couple of times to figure out the right approach. In short, the variety on this course is fabulous. You should get a chance to use every club in the bag. There are some holes that cut you a little slack, and there are some holes where you're going to have to man up and hit the right shot.

Construction on the course. Two greens being redone. Work needs to be done around existing greens. Probably to be expected for late season. Tough Greens.

Should give discounted prices because of all the construction going on at the course. Temporary green, tee boxes and noisy workers on a majority of the course.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Worse than average course for the area
