Detailed description of Southern Landings Golf Club | Landings Golf Course

Southern Landings Golf Club, previously named Landings Golf Club or Stathems Landing Golf Club, is an 18 hole semi-private (open to the public) golf course, located in Warner Robins, Georgia. The course name change happened in late 2015 with the course being purchased by the owners of Southern Hills Golf Course which is a popular course, known for superior conditioning, located about 25 miles south in Hawkinsville, Georgia.

The Course opened for play in 1987. The course was designed by Ault, Clark & Associates. The course is made up of The Trestle 9, and The Bluff 9. A third 9-holes, The Creek 9 was opened in 1990. The Creek 9 was designed by Alan White and Don Cottle, Jr. The Creek 9 closed in 2009.

A round at Southern Landings begins on the Trestle Nine and finishes on the Bluff Nine.

The Trestle takes its name from the wooden bridge crossing the lake on #6. Among the popular holes on this nine is #4, a long and tight par-5 that measures a seemingly never-ending 632 yards from the back tees and 451 from the most forward. No. 4 is a true 3-shot at best to the green par-5 with a slight dogleg to the right. A slight fade off the tee will put you in a good position. Use the bank on the right to help shape your second shot. Don' ease up after this hole. #5 is a long, straight par-4 (450 yards from the back tees and 310 from the forward). Try to avoid the three fairway bunkers on the right. It is almost impossible to reach the green from them.

Hole #14 on the Bluff had been called, "the most feared hole in middle Georgia." This is also the hole that gave the Bluff nine its name. Your shot from an elevated tee drops 80 feet into a fairway with a steep, wooded embankment on the left, out-of-bounds right and a lake at the bottom of the hill that comes into play for the long hitters. Use the slope on the right to work your tee shot back into the fairway. A perfect drive will leave you a 150 to 175-yard second shot completely over water to the green. Do not miss the green left or short.

OK, OK, stop the press. #14 has now been tamed. The hole has been shortened taking the over-water shot out of play. What once was the sloping terrain setup position for your over-water shot is now a newly created green, greatly shortening the hole and taking the hazard out of play. What had been a feared hole is now one of the easier holes on the course. This change was completed in 2016.

With five sets of tees, the course plays from 7,000 to 4,875 yards, with a comfortable 6,284 from the whites.

They have really worked hard to get this course in a great condition. I was impressed with the greens particularly - rolled smooth and true. Still a tad hard but manageable. It was a hot day but well worth it. We thoroughly enjoyed the gentleman we were paired with, as his local knowledge helped greatly. Very friendly staff and members. Will definitely play there again when in the area.

New management has made amazing changes. Restaurant and bar area are coming up but not quite there.....yet. However as far the course goes they have made some amazing changes. The greens were ALL reworked and are AMAZING! they put very true and have some complex setups. Fairways are a little more open now due to some tree removal and this should allow more growth and lushness in the rough areas. Fairways are tight but fair and make sure you play the proper tees. Fairly forgiving course but you can shoot a high number by missing greens.

Played for the first time in 2 weeks. Course has been changed. The 3 inch grass around the greens has been mowed for the fist time in 2 months. Made a BIG difference in scoring. 22 strokes better than last time out. The greens are in great condition. If you putt down hill, better sink it or you face a 4 to 6 foot uphill on the next putt. Almost all of those ugly brown spots on the green have disappeared. Twilight prices now start at 2:00 pm.

Just had time to play nine today but it's a lot of fun. The greens are excellent. This club has a program called The Players Club where you pay 19 dollars a year to play at discount prices. I renewed my players club membership today . $19 dollars here to play at discount prices. I renewed today at half price. Anyone who renews their players club membership in the month of July get it for half price. That is one hell of a deal. I now get to play 18 holes of golf with a cart after 2 o'clock in the afternoon all year for just $15. That is the best golf Deal in the state of Georgia.

Had a fun time yesterday (Saturday 6, June) playing the Landings, my go to course. The recently aerated and sanded greens are quite plush. They aren't very fast yet but they were smooth. It's only been two weeks since they were aerated, but you'd think it's been a lot longer, they have recovered quickly. The course is looking good and is fun to play.

The course was great today. My only complaint was that the greens were too slow. Anyone playing needs to bring bug spray. Flesh eating little bugs that are twice the size of a gnat are still out there, concentrated on the greens.

The course is in great shape. The rain last week made everything look great. What was amazing was that even the fourth fairway which is normally damp was dry and the ball was running out. it's a perfect time to play the Landings.

What a bargain. Paid $16 w/cart...senior weekday afternoon rate.

The course was in great shape, always enjoy the layout out, and as an added bonus, I could play as fast, or slow as I wanted....hardly anyone was on the course.

This is one of the better courses in the area and the price is the best.

They have finally fixed the tee box problem. They have gone back to 4 tee boxes. Black, blue, and white for the pros, the better golfers, and the average golfers and DC gold for the geezers. It is a great improvement. New score cards are being Mae up now. About time. The tee boxes will again match the yardage shown on the scorecard..

The course is in great condition. For the walkers, it is a challenge. It is long. The first three holes of the back nine cover 1.3 miles. All uphill. Par is a good score on those three holes. The bluff signature hole is the toughest in all of Houston County. It plays as a par 4, but to the average golfer it is a par 5. The condition of the course is very nice. the greens are green. the fairways are mostly leaf free and the sand in the bunkers are kept up. Overall a nice play to play during the winter months. The other people on the course are friendly and courteous. The slower players let you play through and the faster players ask to play through. Enjoyable golf.

I walked the Tressel course. It was a good experience. I've played a few scrambles out there, but had never played a regular round of golf. Also all of my previous rounds were in a cart. Iv'e learned that you have never experienced a golf course until you have walked the course. The Landings is truly a beautiful course. When you ride in a cart you are constantly on the golf path and see the course from the hazard area, i.e. trees. So you really do not see the course. When you walk it you are in the fairway constantly. You see what the architect saw when he was designing the course. The course is long and hard. but it was hard to hit a ball out of bounds. To do so you really have to hit a big hook or slice. To hit a ball into the hazard however, is not as hard. There are plenty of bunkers and lots of water. The condition of the course was great. In fact at 10:00 am they were still grooming the course and watering the greens. In fact there were no bad spots on the greens. All of them were in great shape. The speed was about the same as all of the greens in this area. So nothing surprising. Even though I blew a couple of holes, I really enjoyed playing. I will be back.

I played the Landings last Sunday with two friends. I have not played there in some time, and need to correct this. I had forgotten what a nice course it is.

I will start with the biggest negative. I had a guest from Europe with me. He is left handed. The Landings had no left handed clubs! So for $20 we rented some right handed clubs. This was for a 3:30 tee time. The man at the counter of course asked for a drivers license to hold as security and then informed us that we needed to be back at the club house by 7PM as that was when he closed shop and that is when the clubs needed to be in if we expected our drivers license back. Attitude!

In the end, we cut the round short by 2 holes, rushed back to the clubhouse and the same counter man pleasently greeted us and said, I was not sure you would be here in time so I gave your ID to the cart shack people, they are expecting you, if you are not through yet, finish up and when you return the cart and clubs you can pick up the license.

Now why did he not offer that in the first place?

Now the good stuff. The course was in great shape. The layout is terrific. Great variety. There are short par 3s, Long par 5s, a number of water holes, a 100 foot drop tee shot, elevated greens, and bunkers in strategic locations. The conditioning was excellent and the greens were first rate.

Pace of play was only slowed by the number of singles (local residence owners) who showed up (3 different ones). They were all great golfers, long ball hitters, and fast players. We let each of them play through. Accordingly, our pace was slowed somewhat.

The landings was formerly a 27 hole venue. They kept the 2 best 9s and the course remains a delight and a very good value at the $35 we paid.

If you are in the area and want a nice golf experience, you can not go wrong by playing The Landings.

I like this course it's close to my house, great shape, and challenging. My only problem is the price. I could go to Houston lake or southernhills for the same quality but cheaper price.

The Landings is a great local course. It is the best course for 30-40 miles south of Macon. I rank it as such because it is challenging and well laid out. I feel it is more of a test of your golf skill than either Southern Hills or Houston Lakes.

I am a member so I did not record a fee price. Before becomming a member I remember the weekday price to be only about $10 more per round than than Perry CC or International Golf Course and I would say that the extra $10 bought a lot of extra in terms of ambiance, shape of course, and challenge.
