Detailed description of Hampton Golf Village

Hampton Golf Village is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Cumming, Georgia.

The Hampton Golf Village golf course first opened for play in 2000. The course was designed by Clyde Johnston.

This mountain style course has some dramatic elevation changes on the front nine. The back nine is relatively flat, but it is criscrossed with streams and wetlands that bring a different level of challenge to these holes. The fairways are rolling and lead to medium sized greens that have many subtle breaks and distinct undulation. Water comes into play on eight holes.

Hampton Golf Village plays from 4,929 to 6,903-yards and features four sets of tees to challenge all skill levels. At 6,903 yards from the Gold Tees, this par 71 demands long carries off the tee and accurate approach shots into medium sized greens with many subtle breaks and undulations

The design is very good with the exception of one hole. A steeply uphill par 4 with half of the green serving as a false front is hardly what the average golfer would refer to as "fair." Overall, the other 17 holes are excellent, well designed and fun to play.

When I first started playing this course some years ago, I did not like it. I lost a lot of balls because the visuals on most of the holes were intimidating with a lot of carries over deadly wasteland, so I only went back when my playing partners insisted. As time went by, I guess I got used to it because now, I play it often. No. 4 is a very difficult hole played over a creek, up the hill and takes a long drive to reach the plateau. If you hit a high long drive you're ok but if you do not carry the top, you will usually roll back to one of the catch areas with a 200 yard shot which you must get going high very quickly and keep it to the right side to avoid the ravine in front of the left side of the green. A par is excellent here. The front takes well placed tee shots. The back side is easier and I have reccommended to the pro that the sides should be reversed since the first 4 holes are relatively easier. 14 is a long par 3 across 100 yds of waste and swamp during the rainy season. Number 18 is the hardest hole on the course and I would be hard put to name one more difficult. Again, the drive must be long and carry another 100+yds of waste. A 270yd drive will reach the 150 marker. To the right and you could could land in deep bunkers or the woods or will at least make you lay up. The green is cut in a hillside, elevated with bunkers behind, front and right and it is all carry since there is a deadly brush filled creek in front. It feels like a par 5 and probably should be for the average golfer, so a par really feels like a birdie. Overall this course requires good driving and course knowledge to play it well.

The front nine are more difficult than the back side. Except for #18 which borders on being an unfair hole. Fairways are generally wide and greens are not tricked up. I always enjoy playing this course.
