Chattahoochee Golf Club first opened for play in 1959. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
Located north of downtown Gainesville, Chattahoochee Golf Course is the oldest golf course in northeast Georgia. Chattahoochee Golf Course was built alongside Lake Lacier, with some lakes of its own that come into play on three holes. The course underwent a complete renovation in 2006, with new greens, new bunkers, added fairway drainage, cement cart paths, new modern teaching center, a fleet of electric carts, and new tee boxes with 5 sets of tees. CourseCrafters and architect Kevin Hargrave teamed up to renovate the classic Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Layout. From the black tees, the course now measures over 7,000 yards.
Even though the fairways are lined with trees, they still afford generous landing areas. The Chattahoochee Golf Club golf course is closed on Mondays.

Played this course just one day after Bear's best. They compare favorably. The greens are not as fast, but fast enough. the fairways are not as green looking as Bear's best, but well maintained and and just as wide. The sand traps were well maintained and playable. No hidden hazards like at some golf courses, i.e. streams and overgrown valleys at the crest of a hill. Very enjoyable course and the price was right. Oh yes, walkable but hilly. Need to be in shape to do 18. The course was very busy, but the starter did a great job of spacing out the groups.

This was my home course for over 20 yrs. When they decided to renovate it a few years ago, it was closed and I began to play other courses within 45 minutes drive. When it reopened, I found the course to have lost the charm of big undulating greens where pin placement could really make a difference. They removed all water from the layout which had been an intrigal of the joy of its charm. Now the greens are rather flat as a whole. The added fareway bunckers where there were none before hasn't helped the play either. It is always in great condition as it always was before and the greens are becoming less bumpy with time. Maybe it is just that they changed my "baby" and I don't enjoy it as I once did.

Was told that the legendary PGA Tommy Aaron lives and plays here....Both True. I had to play here and was not disappointed...by the course. (No Tommy today).
With eight (8) tee boxes you can pick your yardage from 7,115yd/73.9/131 down to 4,817yd/67.8/114 on this Par 36/36 rolling 1960 Robert Trent Jones Sr layout.
With the soggy conditions, thanks to the last 16 hrs of rain, I chose the Whites at 6,108yd/69.4/122 and was still challenged as it was all carry today. The well defined fairways had generous landing areas with good yardage markers down the middle. Greens rolled smooth (8-9), held great, were well protected by sand and being elevated. It seems that every approach to the greens was uphill and 1-2 extra club was needed.
The Front 9 played to 3,057yds and although short, it protected itself well by throwing you off by the uphill yardage...changeups. The number 1 hcp hole #7 a 398yd Par 4 is a tough dog leg left with a 200-240yd carry to corner to see the elevated green, 50%u2019 above the fairway. If you try to cut the corner a ravine awaits you on the side and front of hill. The homes here are well back from the fairways and strangely not near the greens. The #9 Par 4 played 405yds and the 2nd shot requires extra 2-3 club to hit the promise land.
The Back 9 at 3,051yds was very much the same design as the front, being uphill shots to protected greens. The #15 a 542yd Par 5 plays downhill straight away and sets up for a easy par. The#17 is a Big downhill 165-210yd Par 3 that will hold whatever shot you throw at it.
Would love to play here with dryer conditions and see this course in its tournament condition. Ended up shooting 40/40 w/36 putts by using some Ping i3 clubs that the starter David let me use, Thanks. If you%u2019re in the Gainesville, GA area, stop in and maybe Tommy will be sharing some stories or show you how he stills shoots his age.
