Detailed description of Pine Oaks Golf Club

Pine Oaks Golf Course is an 18 hole Military golf course located at Warner Robins, Air Force Base, in Warner Robins, GA.

Pine Oaks Golf Course first opened for play in 1951.

This narrow course features tree-lined fairways, and there is enough variety of terrain to challenge any skill level. The greens are small, undulating, and well bunkered. Water hazards (two ponds and a brook) come into play on five holes. A new clubhouse and cart paths were completed in 1996. The greens were redone in 2005.

Par for the course is 71. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,258 yards. From the forward tees, the course plays to 5,014 yards. The longest holes on the course are # 13, and #17, both par-5's that play to 560 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 10, a par-3 that plays to 164 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 8, a 418 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Pine Oaks Golf Course is # 15, a 285 yard par-4.

I cannot believe the changes to this course. It is miraculous. In June I thought it was going to have to be shut down. Who ever is responsible for the condition of the greens should be awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. They are in better shape than they were when they were first put in 5 years ago. They have even been brought back to their original size. It was a pleasure to see. The new sod has grown in perfectly smooth. No bumps or ridges. They are a little slow right now because it is too soon to cut them real close. But by next year they could be some of the best in the area. Looking forward to playing them again.

Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Better courses for less nearby

It is hard to believe this course won the Best Golf course in the United States Air force 20 years ago. In my opinion it will not be around next year at this time. It will be closed. The one and a half million dollar green renovation of 5 years ago is completely gone. Only the sand now remains. Every 5 inches there are slivers of the Tiff Eagle grass but most of the time it is a weed. The greens are shaped like they use to be. But they have no grass. The surface is not even smooth. You hit a putt and I mean hit, it will bounce up in the air up to 1 or 2 inches high sometimes. Other times it will turn 60 to 90 degrees because it hits something. For those of us who use to love this place, it literally made me sick to my stomach to see it in this shape. If it was a horse I would have shot it.Good-by Pine Oaks. It has been nice knowing you.

I would not be a member here if I did not like the layout. I have been playing Pine Oaks for about three years now and have seen the course go through a series of ups and downs. When things are going well, and the weather and maintenance crews are in perfect alignment, this course is VERY NEAR the best in town.

The fairways today were perfect and most of the greens were in good shape, but they are having a few issues. As for the many changes that have been made lately, I think it has made a couple holes more difficult and a couple easier. I wonder if those that set the course rating and slope were to come back, if it would go up or down since that last time it was done.

Changes made to #4 mean that any shot to the left is big trouble. #5 has always been a very hard hole, in my opinion. The entire length of the fairway leans to the left and feeds into a wooded sloped area. However, there are trees right, and you have to hit a draw to get to the middle of the fairway; draw + left-sloping fairway = tough hole. #12 was in horrible shape in the Spring, but they are getting it back (probably about 80% now). #15 was made tougher when they put a drainage stream about 210 out from the white tees, so you either have to lay up or hit one exactly 220-240 to leave yourself a good second into the green.

The staff here is top notch and for the money, I still think Pine Oaks can not be beat.

Pine Oaks Golf Club continues to offer great golf at a bargain price. The course was in very nice shape today. Spring is a great time to play this Georgia Course. While not Augusta, The azelas were in bloom and we have their weather.

Hole number 15 is still under repair. They are fixing the bottom dip that has had flooding issues in the past. So for now, 17 holes are playable and you get to play 9 a second time to make 18.

The round was played in less than 4 hours. Started at 10 AM, and home in time to post a ranking and then watch the Masters. What a great Sunday.

Played yesterday for first time in two weeks. #4 hole has changed. All of the oak trees that lined the left side of this par-3 hole have been removed. Althogh it improves the beauty of the hole, it actually makes the hole more difficult. The trees acted as a barrier protecting your ball from crossing the road and going OB. If you did hook, the trees were positioned to knock your ball down and on this downward sloping 150 yard par-3, you could chip from a tree save on to the gree. Now if you hook one, you will be in deep trouble. You'll cross the road and land in the trees or worse in the deep drainage ditch that runs along side the hole in the hazard.

The Robins Air Force Base golf course is a very nice local course.

Make no mistake, this is not a PGA TOUR quality course or a resort course, but on par with a very nice municipal course, but without the crowd. And there are some added good stuff, the course has a nice mix of challeges, elevation changes, nice greens and holes 4, 9, and 10 could all be considered signature holes. #17 is a great open rip it and hit it par-5.

The course was in nice condition and the weather today was perfect.

The price, if you buy their 10 game walking card, it is only $120, or $12 per 18-holes. The riding card is $220 for 10 rounds, or $22 per 18-holes / includes cart. Either way, they are a bargain price for a very nice course.

Played the course on Friday 10 July, 2009. The course was in wonderful condition (as good as I have seen it), looked more like conditionioning you would expect in the prime of late spring, not in summer. We have had some rain lately and that has no doubt helped. The course looked manicured and played great. A a better than average golf course at a bargain price. Highly recommend.

The course is in great condition for this time of the year. Its playing faster than normal which makes it great for my putting. However, for my golf buddy it proved to be very difficult. He couldnt drop a ball in the hole if he had been standing over it. The longest putt he made all day was 1 inch form the hole. Everything else was too fast for him. I geuss its his age or his girl friend that is getting to him. Too much of either is HARD to overcome. I suspect it was a little of both. Really though, he is normally one of golfs better putters, even if he has a slightly unorthodox putting style. But, one can not argue with what his consistently good results.

The greens are still green, but the number of leaves on the ground are starting to outnumber the blades of grass. Soon we will have to be playing our local late fall/earlt winter rule that says a ball covered by leaves is not lost, just temporarily misplaced. You can drop another ball in the area where you last saw your ball without a penalty stroke. Of course that rule applies only to 15 and above handicappers.

If you are a military member in the middle-Georgia area and like to play golf, you owe it to yourself to check out Pine Oaks. Nice course with some tight fairways to challenge you. Greens are smallish and surrounded with lots of traps to catch you. Fun course and I had a great time playing with Bob, Jeff, and Andrew. Thanks guys!

This comning weekend the Air Force Championship is being played on this course at Robins AFB. The Course is in the best shape it has ever been for this event. If you want to play this course when it is at its best, now is the time. Even the sand traps have new sand in them. The fairways and rough are in excellent shape. The greens are still a little slow, but I bet they are faster after the tournament begins. Even the practice green looks great. Too bad it can not be maintained in this condition all the time.

I play this course frequently. I played yesterday, The 31st of December. The weather was beautiful 65 degrees, sunny skies. On the last day of the year, I played my last game of the year and got a par on the last hole of the year. The par-4 #18. The year ended well. I found the course to be in excellent shape for this time of the year, particularly the greens. The only drawback was that after several days of rain, the bunkers (sand traps) were full of water. The bukers do not drain proberly and looked like small ponds. Because most people had the day off and the weather was so good, the course was very crowded. Saying that, the round was just at 4 hours, about 30 minutes longer than normal for me on this course. As always, a nice course at a great price. Monday - Thursday special of $20 w/cart. Happy New Year.

This is a great place to play. The greens are somewhat tricky in that the speed is not the same on all 18 greens. They are Tiff Eagle and generally run about an 8 on the stimp meter. On weekdays, the pace of play is great. On Saturdays, it is often slow. The par 3's are the toughest in the area, but the two drivable par 4's more than make up for them. Need a person with access to the base to be able to play. It is located on Robins Air force Base. Great ambiance when you have to sop putting becuase an aircraft is is either landing or taking off. Makes you feel very proud of your country.

Played today, first Tuesday in October. I was going to walk, but was told they had a Monday & Tuesday special, $20 w/cart and since I had a guest from England, said what the heck, we will play with a cart. Perfect day, great weather, played in just less than 3.5 hours, course was in very good shape. This course is a great value and a nice track. It is like a super nice muni, but with a lot less play so the pace is always good.

Pine Oaks represents excellent value. This is a military course and is not available for open play to the general public unless accompanied by an authorized user. This is a very nice 18 hole Georgia course. A good part of the course is all natural without housing or ajacent structures. Water comes into play on 6, 9, and 10. The narrow fairways on 9, 11 which curves, and 18 which slopes right can get you in trouble. Overall the course is a nice combination of flat terrain on some holes and hills on others. There are 40 to 60 foot elevation changes on 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 16, and 18. The course is well maintained and is an absolute bargain for the price.
