The course first opened for play in 1931 and was designed by William Diddel. The Coffin Golf Club was completely redesigned, recontructed, and reopened for play in 1995. The redesign was the work of Tim Liddy.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6789 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5094 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 1, a par-5 that plays to 552 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 7, a par-3 that plays to 162 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 18, a 447 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 4, a 179 yard par-3.
This very scenic course is highlighted by the White River. The river comes into play on five holes. The greens are undulating and medium-sized, and the fairways are lined with mature trees. The signature hole is #18, a par 4, offering a spectacular view of Downtown Indianapolis.
