Ottumwa Country Club first opened for play in 1922 with 9-holes designed by Tom Bendelow. Chic Adams designed nine new holes, which were added in 1959, and Garrett Gill and George Williams redesigned the entire course in the 1980's.
The course has tree-lined fairways and several water hazards that come into play on some holes. The front nine was built on flat terrain, while the back nine was built on hilly terrain. Ottumwa has a reputation for well-manicured greens. The course is an island of green and trees flanked by residential housing and Indian Hills Community College.
