Veenker Memorial Golf Course is a premier public golf facility owned and operated by Iowa State University. It was established by George F. Veenker, former ISU athletic director and football coach. Mr. Veenker had the idea to build a golf course on the ISU campus. He envisioned, and set in motion, a course to be built by the Works Progress Administration. Originally, a Perry Maxwell design, the course has since become one of the most talked about, demanding, challenging and penalizing golf courses in the Midwest. The hilly design has a creek that comes into play on some holes, including #15, a 420-yard, par 4, featuring a dogleg right fairway and requiring an approach shot over the creek.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6543 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5357 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 7, a par-5 that plays to 590 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 11, a par-3 that plays to 155 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 7, a 590 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Veenker Memorial Golf Course is # 17, a 190 yard par-3.
