WestWinds Golf Club is a Private 18 hole golf course located in New Market, Maryland.
WestWinds first opened for play in 1971. The course was designed by William F. Mitchell.
Built on rolling farmland of Frederick County, Maryland, West Winds Golf Club offers a classical 6,477 yard, Par 72 championship layout that meanders through a 250-home residential community. Dramatic changes in elevation add challenge and interest.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6477 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 6477 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 13, a par- that plays to 525 Yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 12, a par- that plays to 153 yards from the back tees.
This is a shot maker's course where accuracy is a must. You'll find all types of lies that will challenge your game.
The Westwinds Golf Course closed on November 25, 2016.

Played here 6-7-12, for $22, the senior rate. Should have used the Tee Time book for $15, which would've been more appropriate.
Westwinds Golf Club is a residential development course of the very worst kind. Houses are everywhere, and the golf course was clearly an afterthought, especially the back nine...and, oh by the way, they are still building! There are townhouses going in alongside #14 green, and it looks like they'll be within 5 yards of the putting surface. Westwinds has some really poorly designed holes, among them #8, 11, and 13. Very narrow in spots, and on some pretty long holes, so there's not much room for error.
Having said all that, the coure is in wonderful shape. Fairways are good, and the greens were very nice, if a little slow for my taste. Bunkers, on the other hand, were very inconsistent, and many were loaded with rocks and had very thin sand. The greenfront bunker on #8 has a tree root sticking up in it! Also, there are no pictures or drawings of the course layout on the scorecard or on the tee box signage: so, if you're new to the course, good luck figuring out where you're going. Course is quite hilly, with long distances from green to next tee, and in my estimation, not walkable.
Westwinds started as a private club, but couldn't make it, so it went public, then some time later, went back to private, and it's now public again, so you can deduce that acceptance is a problem.
Didn't see many staffers, but the ones we did meet were cordial, and the pro shop guy, who was by himself, was very accommodating. The current ownership is relatively new, and they're same folks who own Glade Valley, about eight miles away. They've done a very good job getting lipstick and perfume on this pig, but it's gonna take some structural changes (buldozers and chainsaws) to make this course a winner. The cart paths are showing their age, too: many potholes and patches. Very bumpy and uncomfortable.
The are much better courses nearby for similar pricing: try Glade Valley, Clustered Spires, or Rattlewood. I do not recommend West Winds.

Very good shape for this time of year - Greens are the best in the area! Course is tight - bring your iron game with you.

Overall, year round, one of the best courses in Maryland. Pristeen, well maintained, challenging, great bargain. Don't miss the chance to play here.
