Detailed description of Woods Hole Golf Club
Woods Hole Golf Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Falmouth, Massachusetts
Do Not Recall (cart included), played on Tuesday, October 2021 at 9:00 AM
This is a first for me.....rating a course without playing. Staying in a friends cottage one (1) block away and decided to see how Private this 1899 designed course really is........Members with their Guest Only. But....the Pro Glenn Kelly and starter Rod, were very courteous in answering my questions and showing me around the clubhouse and course. It was originally a nine (9) hole Thomas Winton design in 1899 and expanded to its current eighteen (18) hole layout by 1929 with designers Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek. Being located on the natural rolling landscape with wild grasses and trees separating fairways, it makes for a beautiful but challenging layout. Having four (4) tee boxes you can choose from 6,223yds / 71.0 / 135 down to 5,068yds / 65.3 / 118 on this Par 35/36 layout. Standing on #1 tee box, it was laser flat and hard pressed to find any signs of previous damage. Fairways looked to be mowed generous in your landing areas and fairway traps located where short cuts will be challenged. The sand traps (4) on #9 green were edged and filled with white course grain sand that had been fluffed earlier. Greens were medium sized, smooth and fast (9-10) but undulating to those that land in the wrong locations. The Pro Shop was fully stocked with equipment and apparel to outfit any Guest vacationer that wants to play. The main Clubhouse was like, well lets just say a Castle fit for a King and Queen. Next time I come out this way, I'll ask my friend if he knows a member I could play with and then you'll get.....The Rest of the Story.
Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line:Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level
Condition of Course, Food/ Bar facilities, Difficulty, Ambiance, Staff, Pro Shop, Layout, No Houses on Course, Clubhouse
