Detailed description of Heathlands Golf Course, The

Heathlands Golf Course, The, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Onekama, Michigan.

The course opened in 1997 and was designed by Jeff Gorney.

The course is set amongst the highlands and rolling hills just south of Portage Lake. The course winds through stands of hardwoods, pines, and orchards. The breeze from nearby Lake Michigan leaves little doubt that you're up north.

The fairways are thick and lush, and the greens are soft enough to hold well placed approach shots. There are four set of tees on each hole with total yardages ranging from 4437 to 6569. Scratch players will be challenged by a slope rating of 139 from the tips. Average golfers will need to play well and execute solid shots to score below their handicap, from the blue tees.

A practice range and two putting greens are available so players can warm up before their round.

Very nice golf course, fairways grass a little long, it was not cut that day. Course is very spread out and has home sites to build on around it. A few condo style homes are being built now.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

score card looks a little short, but plays up hill a significant amount. bring your ego's to the back tee's and get 'em stepped on. from the Blues it's just a really fun track. monday - thursday is usually wide open.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

The best course in in this part of the State (Arcadia Bluffs has tricked out greens that makes it a very pretty "through the clowns mouth" golf course and for the price - it's not worth the it) don't let the yardage fool you, most greens are up-hill from the tee's, so it plays a club longer, from the back tee's, it's all you want.

Would travel: Vacation worthy
Bottom line: Ranks with the best in this price level
