Detailed description of Turtle Creek Golf Course, Regulation Eighteen

Turtle Creek Golf Course is a Public, 27 hole golf facility located in Burlington, Michigan The facility has an 18-hole, The Regulation Course, and a 9-hole, The Executive Nine.

Turtle Creek opened with 9-holes in 1965. The course was designed by Rex Spoor.

The "Spoor Family" were the original builder/owners back in 1965 when it was a nine (9) hole layout. In the late 1970's camping business was booming in the area so they mixed in another nine (9) hole making it the 5,816 yards/ 66.5 / 107 / Par 36/36 layout it is today. (4,364 yards / 65.6 / 103 from the forward tees).

The 9-hole Executive Nine opened in 1991. The Executive 9 was designed by Dave Dart,

The Regulation Eighteen Hole Course is fairly flat and features somewhat open fairways.  The greens are moderately sloped and very undulating, and water hazards come into play on a few holes.

Played here about 20 years ago and decided to make a return trip to see how this local built course has weathered. Other higher end courses built within 20 miles have removed a lot of play and conditions have suffered.

The "Spoor Family" were the original builder/owners back in 1965 when it was a nine (9) hole layout. In the late 1970's camping business was booming in the area so they mixed in another nine (9) hole making it the 5,816yd / 66.5 / 107 / Par 36/36 layout it is today. (4,364yds / 65.6 / 103 from the forward tees)

With the smaller size greens it makes for accurate shots to the soft but partial damaged greens due to cutting too close in the very dry conditions. Yardage sticks/blocks are mixed and found on most holes and this could be greatly improved, along with the Par 3 yardages. Driver landing areas were very open on most holes and the trees had good separation so advancing the ball wasn't any problem. Fairway / rough grass mowed to correct lengths but had a mix of weeds/clover in both that takes away from the straight/flat forward Link's type layout. Shot 38/38 w/30 putts in 2hrs paying $25 for 18 w/cart on this calm Saturday afternoon.

Bottom line...worth stopping for some iron practice to small greens at a relaxing pace.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
