Detailed description of Eastern Hills Municipal Golf Club
Eastern Hills Municipal Golf Club is a Public, 27-hole golf facility located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This facility has an eighteen hole regulation course and a nine hole regulation course, the West Nine.
Eastern Hills first opened for play in 1959.
The Eighteen Hole Course features sloped greens and wide fairways. No water hazards come into play, but numerous sand bunkers have been positioned around the course.
On the other hand, water hazards do come into play on some holes on the West (nine hole) Course. This course's greens are also sloped and a scattering of trees line the fairways.
The 18-hole course at Eastern Hills plays to a par-72 and maximum distance of 6,448 yards.
The 9-hole "West" course at the Eastern Hills plays to a par-35 and maximum distance of 2,751 yards.

I was traveling through this area on a 50 degree but sunny Spring afternoon and decided to get the clubs out of the trunk. During the summer, this is normally a very busy and popular golf destination for Locals. I'm taking advantage of the Spring rate, $20 18/cart and playing this 6,725yd / 71.4 / 124 Par 36/36 open but tree lined layout.
Starting out on #1 524yd dogleg Par 5 will get the rust off quickly. The return on #2 390yd and #3 389yd Par 4's get those long irons out early so #4 181yd Par 3 will play a little easier. Even though the holes play side by side, there is plenty of separation in distance and trees to keep focus on your target. Tee boxes (4) are well manicured and marked, that setup for good views of the sculptured/mowed fairways leading up to the mostly, sand trap protected greens. Greens are average size with some slight undulation to the normal flat landscape. The Back 9 starts out the same as the front, with #10 an 543yd Par 5 followed up by #11 an 198yd Par 3, then a straightaway 401yd Par 4. Good yardage markers are found throughout the fairway and I saw a lot of 200yd markers this afternoon. The holes #17 390yd Par 4 and #18 525yd Par 5 are great finishing holes for this 1959 well designed and matured course.
I ended up shooting 40/41 w/31 putts in 2.5hrs and look forward to returning as conditions firm up and warmer weather returns.
