Detailed description of Clearbrook Golf Club | Clearbrook Golf Course

Clearbrook Golf Club is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Saugatuck, Michigan, just 35 miles from downtown Grand Rapids and 10 minutes from Holland.

Clearbrook Golf Club first opened for play in 1938.

Clearbrook challenges and entertains with a variety of  holes. You will find tight pine and hardwood-lined fairways that end at smaller, well-bunkered target greens. All sorts of water, especially the meandering “clear brook” challenge you. Hillside lies and hazards will confront you.

#5, a 491 yard par-5 is rated in “West Michigan’s Top 18” by Grand Rapids Magazine. This hole crosses two (2) creeks before the large, two-tiered green. It’s a classic risk-reward hole.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,547 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,763 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 16, a par-5 that plays to 524 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 11, a par-3 that plays to 138 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 15, a 468-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Clearbrook Golf Course is # 6, a 467 yard par-4.

Played the complete rolling layout this time and got a better feel of what the course has to offer. They haven't got the maintenance crew fully assembled and cleaning up after the high wind storms that have gone through the area, so its hard to talk about normal and today's conditions. The rolling layout with well protected greens, will keep you on choosing your shot selection for distances. The normal 100,150,200 yardage blocks are there but adding the sprinkler heads would be very helpful. Many of the Blue tee boxes have chutes that you're hitting out of, which puts pressure on right at the start. Paid $40 and took 3.5hrs, Son Barry shot 96/34 and I had 91/35 as the greens were still a little bumpy and inconsistent on speed. Looking forward to returning later this summer when things are back to conditions I saw last summer.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

I only played two (2) holes #15 /468yd par-4 and #17/ 156yd par-3, but toured the complete course with son Barry as he works part time there.

At 2:30pm the place full with many 2-somes being husband (6,556yd) /wife (5,062yd) should tell you a little about the 72.6 / 131 layout being player friendly, but still a challenging yardage. Fairways are lush, green and soft and taking full divots on each shot. Average size greens are very soft that receive and hold all shots but putt very true at about a 7-8 pace with real soft sand in EVERY trap protecting them. Rough was mostly dry as the drought conditions are taking care of the non-watered areas. Ponds and streams seem to weave in and out on almost every hole keeping the straight forward layout (No real Doglegs) from getting too comfortable. Using 150yd sticks in the middle of the fairway with 100/200 plates and random sprinkler heads are marked that could be improved.

Even though the layout is side by side there is good separation and trees, keeping the stray balls a safe distance from normal play.

Great Clubhouse with restaurant food is another reason of the Sunday afternoon traffic making it a full-service golf course destination you'll enjoy coming back to.

Prices range $45 - $28 for 18/cart with the PM rates being lower than the AM and some Senior specials also in the mix make this a place you'll be coming back to again, soon.
