The Owatonna Country Club golf course first opened for play in 1973 as a 9-hole course. The front nine was designed by Joel Goldstrand. Gerry Pirkl designed the back nine a few years after the original nine opened.
The Owatonna Country Club golf course is a fairly hard course that has many trees and several water hazards incorporated into its design. The greens are fast, and the fairways are narrow. The signature hole is #13, a 436-yard, par 4, requiring a well-struck approach shot past a large spruce tree blocking the front of a green that slopes from left to right.
Par for the course is 71. From the back tees the course plays to 6,249 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,205 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 8, a par-5 that plays to 506 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 15, a par-3 that plays to 136 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 3, a 417 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Owatonna Country Club is # 18, a 177 yard par-3.
