Detailed description of Hillcrest Country Club
Hillcrest Country Club is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Kansas City, Missouri, on the south side of Swope Park.
Hillcrest Country Club first opened for play May 27, 1916. The course was designed by Donald Ross. Marvin Ferguson redesigned four holes in 1975, followed by Bill Amick, who redesigned the entire course in 1984.
Hillcrest is the only remaining Donald Ross course in Missouri. From the opening hole, which Raymond Floyd once said was the toughest No. 1 he had ever played, to the 620 yard No. 10, still the longest hole in the city, Hillcrest provids continual challenging play in a nonresidential setting of rolling hills, mature trees and lush turf. Why, even Arnold Palmer played Hillcrest back in the 60's and posted an 83.
The Hillcrest Country Club Golf Course is full of hills, so expect many lies to be above or below your feet. The fairways are plush, and the greens are easy to read and some are elevated. The signature hole is #1, a 243-yard, par 3, requiring everything the average player has to reach this green in regulation.
The club had been private for many years, but recently has opened for public play.

Cheap, but might be going downhill...No one is playing it and it is still a great value in KC

The more I think about it, the more I'm impressed with this course. It was very wet out, and cart path only was in place, but our two-some never had to wait for the three-some in front of us, and we were finished in just about 4 hours. The staff was great including the guy running carts back & forth, the clubhouse personnel & the marshall. The ONLY issues we ran accross was no Snickers bars, and our cart GPS wasn't working at first. The GPS issue was resolved in an acceptable fashion, but I didn't look into the Snickers issue any further.
