Detailed description of Roselle Golf Club, CLOSED 2010

Roselle Golf Club is a Private, 9 hole golf course located in Roselle, New Jersey.

The Roselle Golf Club golf course first opened for play in 1917. The course was designed by Robert White and Seth Raynor.

The Roselle Golf Club was incorporated February 15, 1917, and by March 10th the first Board of Trustees and officers were elected. At this same meeting, the officers of the club were authorized to purchase the Chivers Farm and property for $28,000.

The greens committee secured the services of Robert White of the North Shore Country Club, Long Island by April 1917, to furnish a golf layout for $100 and to supervise all work for two years at $250 per year. Mr. White prepared the layout and said the work would begin within a week. By May of 1917 six greens had been completed including seeding. All plowing was finished. Work on cutting down trees had been started and the 7th and 8th greens would be seeded within a week. Additional input on the design of the course was provided by famed golf architect Seth Raynor, the Princeton alumnus who includes among his credits some of the most famous golf courses in the world, including The National Links on Long Island, Cypress Point, Yale Golf Course, and Chicago Golf Club.

By 1921 the fairways and greens were being compared favorably with other clubs in the area.

The 9-hole Roselle Golf Club golf course plays to a par-36 and a distance of 3,104 yards.

Blue tees: par-36, 3,104 yards, 35.2 / 121

Red tees: par-38, 2,706 yards, 33.5 / 113

The course closed in 2010.

Five years after a developer proposed plans to build apartments on a 59-acre golf course in Roselle, local leaders broke ground on a 932-unit complex.

Crews will begin building the facility, along with a 20-acre park, on the site of the former Roselle Golf Club in January 2015.

Roselle Golf Club has really turned around with the arrival of the new Green Superintendent Christopher DeProspero. he has restored the conditions of the club to a moderately price private facility. The pro, Vinnie Harmon, is the heart and soul of the Golf Club. he has served for 40 years and represents the best of the RGC experience. The club is comprised of a great bunch of guys and gals who love golf and having fun.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
