The course, designed by Charles G. Nieman, opened for play in 1925.
The course has narrow fairways and small fast greens. The terrain varies in undulation, and a creek comes into play on five holes. The signature hole is #18, a 340-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot up a dogleg right fairway. This is also a very scenic hole with a pond and fountain that are lit at night and can be seen from the clubhouse.

Watch out for # 5, a 474-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Lancaster Country Club is # 14, a 157 yard par-3.

The greens are in extremely poor shape, the tee boxes have weeds on them and it was just announced there will be another membership dues increase again this year. That is a 12% increase in two years and there are greens at public courses that are in better shape.

Course is a real challenge and conditions are amazing. The course has been rated by the local club pros as having 2 back to back of the toughest par 4s in the district.
