Detailed description of Middle Island Country Club

Middle Island Country Club is a Public, 27 hole golf facility located in Middle Island, New York. The facility has three 9-hole courses. They are The Spruce, The Dogwood, and The Oak. These courses can be combined to form 3 different 18 hole combinations: Dogwood/Spruce, Dogwood/Oak, and Spruce/Oak.

The Middle Island Golf Courses first opened for play in 1963. The course(s) were designed by Baier Lustgarten.

The Spruce Course was renovated in 2008. An Island Green was added on #7 a 393 yard, par-4 and more tee boxes added to accommodate women, seniors, and championship play. The course promises to delight players of all levels. Its generous fairways and large greens leave room for error and you can "grip it and rip it" off the tee.

The Dogwood Course has narrow fairways and presents challenges for any shots that wander. Get to the green and be careful because these greens present the most challenge of the three courses with many subtle breaks that leave a player wondering why it "just missed."

Strategy and course knowledge will serve the average handicapper quite well as you take on the Oak Course. Almost all the holes have a dogleg or two that make the Oak Course play longer that the yardage indicates.

There are only four water hazards that come into play throughout all three courses.

Played today and the conditions were poor. Greens were spongy with many imperfections. You have a better lie in the rough than on the fairway in most cases. There is no sand in the bunkers. Many of the surrounds are full of crab grass. There are many stumps from trees that have fallen or been cut down. Instead of removing the stumps, they are just left there. Didn't see a ranger on the course all day to speed up slow groups. They have some nerve to charge $75.00 for this course.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I won't play again, I wouldn't recommend this course, More than a field, but less than a golf course, Worse than average course for the area, Any price would be too much for this courses
