Leatherstocking Golf Course, The, is a Resort, 18 hole golf course located in Cooperstown, New York.
Leatherstocking golf course first opened for play in 1909. The par-72 course was designed by Devereaux Emmet and has been redesigned / restored by Robert E. Cupp
Leatherstocking golf course sits in a valley under heavily forested hills and alongside the western shore of Lake Otsego. The course is elevated above the level of the lake, providing great water views. Leatherstocking features deep sand bunkers guarding the greens and numerous water hazards.
This old traditional-style course has narrow fairways. All the greens are small, fast, well bunkered, and elevated. Some say they saved the best holes for last. #16 requires a good drive from the elevated tee so you can get over the water in front of the green. #17 is a sweet little par 3, you have to carry the water to a skinny green. The 18th green ends your round right in front of the hotel and Hawk Eye grill. Hole #18, is a 505-yard, par 5, has an island tee box and requires a tee shot that must carry at least 120 yards to clear the water.
Back Tees: 6,416 yards, course rating 70.8, slope rating 135.
Middle Tees: 6,056 yards
Forward Tees: 5,178 yards

Leatherstocking was in its full Fall grandeur with brilliant fall foliage, picturesque views of Otsego Lake, excellent leaf removal on the course, and greens that were slicker than ice. Good news is that the greens won't be aerated until mid November so come enjoy challenging pin placements on real greens (most of the other local courses were aerated and are still bumpy). The Otesga Hotel next door has a marvelous veranda to sit on and enjoy the view and a cocktail. Our "diva outing" with 28 women dined off the regular menu in the Grill Room and the food was excellent. Cost for 18 holes with a cart was $95 on a Saturday.
