Detailed description of Neuse Golf Club, The

Neuse Golf Club, The, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Clayton, North Carolina. The Neuse Golf Club offers both public play and membership opportunities.

The golf course at The Neuse Golf Club first opened for play in 1993. The course was designed by John LaFoy.

The Neuse Golf Club course's layout offers a spectacular view of the Neuse River, which was named after the Neusiok Indian Nation. But the neighboring Tuscarora Indians, part of the Iroquois Nation, called it "Cautonah" (pronounced gow-ta-no), or Pine-in-Water. The river comes into play on six holes, and there are water hazards that come into play on eight other holes. The Neuse Golf Club course course was built on rolling hills and its greens are well protected by sand and grass bunkers or large mounds. At least half of the tree-lined fairways are doglegs.

GOLF DIGEST named The Neuse "The Best New Public Golf Course in North Carolina." In addition, The Neuse received a 4 1/2 star rating for places to play in the year 2000, 2001.

The longest hole on the course is #8, a 536-yard, par 5, which allows long hitters a birdie opportunity. A water hazard protects the front of the green, so most golfers will choose to lay-up on their second shots.

Day 61 - 100 days, 100 courses (Monday, May 13, 2019)

I tried to squeeze some golf in before the storm but only got to play one hole before it started pouring. We had hail and a tornado warning but after about 45 minutes the sun came out.

The first 3 or 4 fairways were wet but everything dried out and the course was great. My highest compliment is that I would gladly play it again. Very friendly staff but they didn’t help me find the three balls I lost on the way to shooting a 91

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again

The course is in decent shape. The rough was a little deep and required too much time to look for balls. The greens were very bumpy and a smooth putt was impossible. The course set up is great for long hitters, but for those on the forward tees many shots required a long uphill shot that was difficult with a fairway wood. Personally I have no desire to play the course again but I'm sure longer hitters will have fun.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I won't play again

My son's bachlor party was here and had a great time for the lower hcp golfers. Demanding tee shots required from the blues if you want to score with the tight fairways and use 6I or less into the greens. Played couple more times since 2008 and conditions were always the same, very good. Worth playing if in the area. (Prices vary w/ deals)

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

The greens are in terrific shape, the only negative being those players who do not fix pitch marks nor rake bunkers. This is one of my favorite places to play, but it is a good haul for me to get there. About 30 miles.

Love this course but fairways were not that good ....But almost all courses have bad fairways here in the winter !!! Got a deal to play it for $39 ....One of the toughest layouts in the area !!! If you want to challenge yourself jump on the Blues @ 6600 yards ...
