Rivers Edge Golf Club, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Shalotte, North Carolina.
Rivers Edge golf course first opened for play in 1999. This par-72 course is advertised as an Arnold Palmer design, located as it is along Arnold Palmer Drive, but it is mainly the work of Palmer's assistant, Erik Larsen.
Six of the holes at Rivers Edge Golf Club sit high upon bluffs that overlook two miles of grassy marshlands bisected by the bends and turns of the Shallotte River. The interior holes at Rivers Edge are equally stunning with gentle elevation changes, freshwater lakes and bent grass greens. GOLF MAGAZINE ranked it among "Top New Courses You Can Play" in 2000.
It's a combination of many things,it's got a links-like layout, being on the river, and it's a lot like the older Scottish courses on the ocean. The inland holes are like Pinehurst: a traditional American golf feel.
Watch out for #9, a 570-yard par 5. You can get in trouble if you're long off the tee and land whwere the fairway rolls downhill to the marsh. However, if you're short off the tee, you'll be looking at either laying up well to the right of the green. From there, you will still be in marsh-danger if you venture too far left or are short, or trying to carry a broad expanse of marsh to reach the green, which juts out precariously into the marsh.
#9 is the only real forced carry for everyone. Depending on where you laid up, you could have a carry of only 50 yards over the marsh or 200 yards. It depends on the line you take.
Rivers Edge plays to 6,909 yards of golf for a par course rating of 74.7 and a slope rating of 149.
Gold Tees: 6,909 yards, Black Tees: 6,440 yards, White Tees: 6,033 yards, Green Tees: 5,935 yards, Blue Tees: 4,692 yards.

The course is on the Shallotte River and the setting is beautiful. The layout is challenging and at times even good shots had difficulty staying in play, so you had to think about your landing area. The first time through, this was a problem, but when I played it the second time, it was much better due to familiarity with the layout. The bar is well stocked.

No map of course on scorecard or on each hole made it very difficult. Played course on a windy overcast day. Hit a tee ball on one hole right at the 150 yard marker and ended up in the marsh, fairway sloped toward the marsh.

This course is demanding on several holes and course management is required. It it in great shape from the tee bxes thru the fairways. The exception are the greens. The course had been closed for two months in order to regrass the greens, they had been open several days prior to our playing and were not in good shape (exposed sand and very bumpy) I would give it another couple of of months to fill in.

Just an outstanding layout...I found myself paying too much attention to the scenery. I highly recommend this course. The staff was outstanding as well.
