Detailed description of York Golf Club

York Golf Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Columbus, Ohio.

York Golf Club was incorporated in 1924.

In August of 1926 the Board of Directors authorized the Executive Committee to engage the services of a golf architect to prepare plans for a proposed golf course. The committee enlisted George Sargent to lay out a nine hole golf course and supervise it's construction. In June of 1927 the first nine holes were opened for play.

The club hired its first professional, Mr. Herman Densmore "Denny" Shute in 1927 . Denny Shute ultimately become a three time major championship winner (British open 1933, PGA Champion 1936 & 1937). In fact, Mr. Shute was the last player to win consecutive PGA Championships until some fellow named Tiger Woods matched the feat in 1999 & 2000. The Memorial Tournament honored Mr. Schute in 2006 in recognition of his accomplishments as a player and contributions to the game.

1930 brought the plans for a second nine holes that opened in June of 1931.

Golf carts were introduced to York in 1962 and in the same year an announcement was made that an outerbelt would be constructed near the south side of York property. The fairways received their first irrigation system in 1965 and in 1967.

York has always been owned by three local Masonic Lodges. The membership is now a nearly even mixture of Lodge and non-Lodge members.

Par for York Golf Course is 71. The Blue Tees measure 6,400 yards, White-6,105 yards, Gold-5,579 yards and The Red Tees play to 5,290 yards.

It was in very good shape. I really enjoyed playing it. A fun course. A mixture of short and long par-4's, easy par-5's, and difficult par-3's. A great course.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level, Best course in the area

Very scenic and challanging course from white or blue tees. A number of elevation changes, but very walkable. Staff is extremely friendly and customer-oriented.
