Detailed description of Salt Fork State Park Golf Course

Salt Fork State Park Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Lore City, Ohio.

Salt Fork State Park Golf Course opened for play in 1972. The course was designed by Jack Kidwell, along with a young apprentice named Michael Hurdzan who continued designing courses.

Salt Fork State Park Golf Course is located on rugged terrain of rural southeast Ohio. With its rolling fairways and expansive greens, the 18-hole course can challenge golfers of all levels. The Saltfork Lake flows adjacent to this course, providing many scenic views. The back nine requires many uphill shots to elevated greens, and all the fairways are tree lined.

Salt Fork Golf Course is part of the State's Salt Fork Park. It has a conference center/resort style hotel on the site, but you don't have to stay there to play the golf course. "Salt Fork is a destination that has gained the appreciation of golfers who know a top-notch course when they see one," said park manager Hal Harper. "Golfers often stop throughout their play to take in some of the course's spectacular panoramic views and observe the abundant wildlife."

The course par is 71. The course spans 250 acres of forested hills, open meadows and misty valleys of Guernsey County. Measuring only 6,056 yards from the white tees, the course plays considerably longer than expected because of the numerous uphill approach shots.

My favorite Ohio course. Very unconventional. No level lies, lots of blind shots, fast domed greens. Short, but plays MUCH harder than its rating or slope. Not much water and not too much sand. Bring lots of balls and don't even think about walking this very hilly track. Magnificent vistas, especially from above #3 tee. Too hard for high handicappers- which can lead to very long rounds. Many good players hate this course because you can't play power golf and must hit precise iron shots from weird lies. Due to state budget issues, they have stopped mowing much of the secondary rough- making the course even harder and the ball-loss rate even higher.
