Detailed description of Shangri-La Resort Golf Complex

Shangri-La Resort is a Resort, 27 hole golf facility located at the tip of Monkey Island on Grand Lake about 82 miles north of Tulsa in Afton, Oklahoma.

The original Shangri-La Golf Course opened in 1973. In 1982, a second course opened giving the facility two 18-hole golf courses. The 1973 course became known as The Blue Course and the 1982 course was known as The Gold Course. Both 18-hole courses at Shangri-La Resort were designed by Donald Sechrest.

Hard economic times in the 1980's and 1990's produced multiple ownership changes and bankruptcies. The once-majestic resort was bought, auctioned off and demolished with the plans to reopen a new resort. Again an economic turndown halted those plans, leaving the property untouched.

In 2010, Eddy Gibbs bought the property and spent $35 million restoring the resort. The old golf courses were gutted and replaced with a championship 27-hole course. New bunkers, tee boxes, a practice facility and a new 14,000-square-foot clubhouse, which has an 85-seat restaurant, were added.

Shangri-La Golf Club offers 27 holes of Championship Golf including the Champions Nine, the Heritage Nine and the Legends Nine. The resort now touts itself as one of the top five courses in Oklahoma.
