Detailed description of Diamond Woods Golf Course

Diamond Woods Golf Course is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Monroe, Oregon.

Diamond Woods Golf Course first opened for play in 1997. The course was designed by Greg Doyle. The front nine is characterized by open holes while the back nine features more tree-lined holes over rolling terrain and views of the valley and far-off snow topped mountains. Water comes into play on seven of our holes to add to the excitement.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,036 yards. From the foward tees the course plays to 4,968 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 18, a par-5 that plays to 623 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 12, a par-4 that plays to 162 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 8, a 503 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Diamond Woods is # 15, a 183 yard par-3.

We made the turn in 90 min, but then got bogged down with a shotgun tournament that jumped in ahead of us. The last 5 holes took over 90 min alone. I'm very sure that if not for this tournament the pace of play would have been great. Wonderful course, extremely well maintained, early morning it is so beautiful!

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area

The best layout in the southern Willamette valley; each hole has character. Many options of how to play this course with 5 sets of tees: white tees are 6055 yards, slope of 128, the tips are 7000 yards with a slope of 144 (!). This is a very fun course to play, but take a cart on the back nine.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again

This course takes great advantage of it's location in the hills that border the Willamette Valley. Each hole stands alone, without houses or streets to intrude upon the wooded ambiance. The different tee locations provide a variety of ways to play the course, and at over 7000 yards from the tips it can provide a significant challenge for any player. It is not a grip-it-and-rip-it course; there are a number of holes where driver may not be the best choice off the tee. The greens are medium fast, and are rolled regularly, which makes for putts that roll true with consistent speed. The facilities are basic but very functional. The clubhouse restaurant makes great sandwiches from fresh ingredients — their One-Putt breakfast sandwich is worth showing up a bit early for all by itself. There is a large patio overlooking the course which provides a pleasant spot to relax after your round. The course is privately owned and managed, and has been improved each year since it was opened. The fairways drain well in wet weather, but can get a bit beat up during the winter months. The bunkers seem to be river sand; they play a bit heavy, particularly when wet. The course is rarely crowded during the week, and we usually walk our round in a little over 3 hours. Diamond Woods is a fine golf course, and holds up well against NW courses costing twice as much. I recommend it.

This is a fabulous course, out in the country with more critters than people. I used every club in my bad save one, and thoroughly enjoyed the wide variety of holes. You'd think some golf architiect designed it but it was designed and built by two brothers who love golf. It shows.

Plays much better when dry. Lots of mushy spots and greens a bit diseased. However, the grounds crew does a good job inspite of the wet conditions.
