Detailed description of Quail Valley Golf Course

Quail Valley Golf Course, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Littlestown, Pennsylvania.

The course first opened for play in 1993. The course was designed by Paul Hicks.

The front nine plays through a mature stand of tress. The back nine is more open with water lurking on seven of the nine holes. It is lile playing two distinctly different courses.

With five sets of tees, golfers of all abilities have the opportunity to take advantage of demanding risk/reward par 5's, a beautiful signature par 3, and the course's trademark fast greens.

The signature hole is No. 13. The layout is a par 3 Island green. The tee shot provides a psychological challenge for golfers of all abilities. Playing roughly 150 yards, the green is actually a lot larger than it appears from the tee box. Bunkers to the left and right of the green will collect shots hit a little off line and there is more room up front than you might think. Any shot that lands on the island green can make your day.

The 5 different tee boxes all play to a Par-72. From the back tees the course plays to 7042 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5195 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 15, a par-5 that plays to 626 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 17, a par-3 that plays to 158 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 5, a 427 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Quail Valley Golf Course is # 17, the 158 yard par-3. Most of the greens are small and well bunkered, thus demanding pinpoint approach shots.

A nice course in good condition. A fair course with enough variety of layout to keep interest. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good experience for "average" players.

This updates my previous review from 2010. Our group of travelling seniors played here 9-11-12 for $25 with the Tee Time book, a fair price. Course is in very good shape, except for the greens and bunkers. Greens had been aerated about two weeks earlier, and were not fully healed (we were told they were OK when we made the tee times). In addition, several had burned patches, along the edges, particularly. Did not materially affect play, but an annoyance. Bunkers were VERY firm and wet: no puddles, but sand was quite sticky. Otherwise, good conditions. Staff was congenial, as always, and the remodeled lounge/bar, upstairs in the clubhouse, is a huge improvement from the old days. Bar staff was especially attentive. Our group plays Quail Valley about once a quarter, year-round, and is always pleased with the experience. We recommend.

Must be seeding. Greens and tee boxes were full of sand. Thought we should have gotten a better price for the conditions. Have played before, and really liked it. Bad timing I guess.

Our group of travelling seniors plays Quail Valley about three or four times a year, and the course conditions have definitely improved over the last few years as a result of the current owners.

The layout is generally OK, terrain is gently rolling and wooded, especially the front nine. The architect did some very nice things, notably on #9, a long dogleg par 5; #13, an island green par 3; and #15, a very long (almost 600 yards) dogleg par 5 down through a narrow chute of trees, with a creek crossing the fairway about 70 yards in front ofthe very firm green.

The course is walkable. There are some houses on the course, but they are not intrusive at all. Tee boxes are medium large and generally flat. Fairways are pretty wide, and are quite playable. Greens are medium sized, are VERY hard and putt fast: I find it very difficult to get a long shot into the green to hold because they are so hard. Bunkers are about where they need to be, not an excessive number of them.

Played here 10-30-08, and the course was in very good shape, with the exception of the bunkers, which were very hard, with only a thin layer of playable sand.

Pro shop and snack bar are in the lower level of an old barn: picturesque, but a bit on the small side. Worth a trip to play, but it is a long way out in the country, so make sure you have directions before setting off. Also, the course gets LOTS of outings (and they do a great job with them), so call ahead to make sure you can get on.

I have played this course at least a dozen times. Each year I get more pleasure then the year before. The staff then and now are still great. I have invited fellow golfers to join me and they also liked the course.
