Detailed description of Greencastle Greens Golf Club

Greencastle Greens Golf Club is a Semi-Private 18 hole golf course located just a short drive from Baltimore and Harrisburg in Greencastle, Pennsylvania.

Greencastle Greens Golf Club opened in 1991. The course was designed by Robert Elder.

At Greencastle Greens Golf Club you will enjoy rolling fairways abundantly sprinkled with mature trees, manicured bunkering, water falls and lakes that come into play on ten of the holes at Greencastle Greens.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,892 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,305 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 4, a par-5 that plays to 556 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 11, a par-3 that plays to 137 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 4, the 556 yard par-5 challenge is the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Greencastle Greens Golf Club is # 11, the 137 yard par-3.

Blue tees: par-72, 6,892 yards, 72.6/129

White tees: par-72, 6,318 yards, 69.3/122

Gold tees: par-72, 5,992 yards, 69.1/120

Red tees: par-72, 5,305 yards, 70.3/124

Played here 7-27-12 for $15 with the Tee Time Golf Pass, a really good deal for this "interesting" course. Layout/design is very good, winding through an upscale development and some farmland, with lots of hills, rills, and other natural elevation changes. Adjacent homes are far enough away to never intrude on the course, although there is one par 3 that has a barn next to the fairway that has obviously come into play for many golfers, judging by the dings in the siding. Several holes are seriously downhill off the tee, notably #10, which has a pond fronting the super-large green: it takes a lot of confidence to go for that one in two (I laid up). Very few flat lies anywhere on the course. Most of the greens are average size, with a few small ones, and some huge, like #10. Overall, I liked the layout, although it would be very tough for a newcomer without some help from someone experienced with the course: there is a lot of trouble very close to the fairways, and shot placement is critical. I would also note that the scorecard is of no help: the cartoonish diagram of the course is of little value. No hole diagrams on the posts at the tee box, either. Bottom line: play with someone who knows the course. Conditions were OK: tee boxes and fairways were nice, greens were in excellent shape, putting medium fast, but bunkers were too firm, and had obviously not been raked in some time. There were also many wet spots in the fairways, so drainage looks to be a problem on some holes. Course is not walkable, in my view, due to elevation change and some long distances between holes. One very favorable comment: we encountered a number of workers on the course, and in every case, they shut down their machines as we played through. Nice touch! Clubhouse is smallish, but adequate, and staff was friendly and welcoming. Overall, I liked the course, and look forward to scoring at least five strokes better next time I play it!

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area

Nice course for the money. Would consider it worth the drive for the area (close to DC/Baltimore area and 4 states within 45 minute drive). There are some issues with drainage during heavy rain periods, but course is very well maintained. Dry weather can cause issues sometimes but where doesn't that. Greens are usually well maintained and FAST. Highly recommended for average golfer looking for a challenge from the muni's.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Better than average course for the area

This course is not for the high handicapper, or anyone that does not have a good supply of golf balls. The course was in very good condition, and the views were very nice. Pace of play was a little slow, but that was probably due to the course difficulty. Made the drive from Baltimore to play this course and Beaver Creek (Hagerstown) in the same day. Should have just gone for the replay at Greencastle Greens. Next time I am playing 36, they will all be at G.G.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
