Oakmont East Golf Course "The Beast" is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
The course first opened in 1938. The course was designed by Emil Loeffler & John McGlynn. James Harrison and Ferdinand Garbin redesigned the course in 1962.
Oakmont East is hilly on the front nine and predominantly flat on the back nine. There are no water hazards and only a few sand bunkers to contend with. Most all the fairways are tree lined and the wind is hardly ever a factor. The greens are extremely large, slightly sloped and average speed. Most of the tees and greens are elevated.
Par for the course is 72.The course plays to 5,720 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 18, a par-5 that plays to 545 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 17, a par-3 that plays to 125 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 9, a 390 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 17, a 125 yard par-3.
The course closed in 2007 to be used for parking during the 2007 US Open. The course re-opened in 2008 as a reconfigured private 9-hole course for Oakmont Country Club members only.
