Montaup Country Club is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
Montaup opened as a three-hole course in 1923. It grew to 18 holes but was downsized nine holes shortly before World War II.
Years later, the back nine was restored. The course never had a formal golf course architect. The layout went through changes over the years.
Montaup Country Club is open year round for the die-hard golf enthusiast. Montaup is fairly open, flat course with tricky winds that provide a good test of shot-making ability. The first three holes are considered by some, the toughest starting holes in Rhode Island. The first hole has water in front and to the right of the green, with out-of-bounds guarding the left side.
The signature hole is #16, a 519-yard par-5 that overlooks scenic Mt. Hope Bay and Bridge.

Love this course. Best membership value in the area which is why the waiting list is so long.
