Detailed description of Windermere Club | Windermere Golf Course

Windermere Club is a Private 18 holes golf course  located in Blythewood,South Carolina .

Windermere first opened for play in 1989.The course was designed by Pete and P. B. Dye.

This Scottish links-style course has wide-open fairways and Centipede rough.  The terrain is predominantly rolling hills, but still comfortable to walk.  Lakes come into play on nine holes and the greens are exceptionally large.

With only one forced carry and no severe doglegs, Windermere has some allowances for the average golfer. Yet, an 18-hole round will test the course management skills of even the lowest handicapper. Along the route, you'll wind your way across vast fairways that are bordered by hardwood forest, dotted with several lakes and ponds, and characterized by constant, subtle elevation changes.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,959 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 4,910 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 542 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 17, a par-3 that plays to 160 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 8, a 483-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. However, many claim #9 to be the most difficult , a 204-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over water to the green. The easiest hole at Windermere Golf Course is # 17, the 160 yard par-3.

Best hole that I remember was a par 3 where the tee box was one one side of the water and the green on the other side. It was so lovely that I took several pictures before teeing off. I told myself just take a smooth swing with the 7 iron. The whole hole is mostly water, shot took off over the water; I did not hear a splash. Took the cart over to the other side and found that I landed it 15 feet from the hole. Missed the birdie, but got the par. Just a lovely course to play and drive around.
