Kings Grant subdivision was established in 1970 and one of the big draws to the neighborhood was the golf course, the River Club on the Ashley. But in 2005 the golf course declared bankruptcy and was forced to close its doors much to the dismay of its residents. The new developer, Kings Grant Golf Acquisitions, agreed to assume the debt as part of the redevelopment deal. Redevelopment plans for the course property, approved by Kings Grant's HOA, include building 80 homes on 178 acres with 62 acres allocated for a common park area for the homeowners of Kings Grant.
