Detailed description of Jimmy Clay Golf Course
Jimmy Clay Golf Course, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Austin, Texas. The course is one of six courses owned by the Austin Parks & Recreation. The courses are: Hancock Golf Course, Jimmy Clay Golf Course, Joe Balander Golf Course, Roy Kizer Golf Course, Lions Golf Course, Morris Williams Golf Course
The Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974. Jimmy Clay Golf Course was designed by Joe Finger.
Jimmy Clay Golf Course was built on a relatively flat site surrounded by Williamson Creek. The course plays to a maximum distance of 6,918 yards through treed areas as well as open spaces. The course is characterized by its relatively large, elevated greens and forgiving tee shots.
In 1994, Jimmy Clay Golf Course became part of a 36 hole complex with the addition of the Roy Kizer Golf Course on the southern portion of the site. Together the two courses make up one of the finest public 36 hole complexes in Texas.
In 2007, Jimmy Clay Golf Course underwent major renovations. This included three holes being redesigned, all of the greens being replanted, and all of the bunkers being rebuilt.

Nice old course, renovated a few years back to make it more modern and challanging. Lots of tees for different skill levels. Price is cheap during the week. Walker friendly. Very challanging from the back tees. Lots of different challanges (water, trees, island green, doglegs, bunkers, etc.) so you don't get bored. Strategy off the tee is important.

This course could be much better if they fixed just a few things and kept after people not keeping pace. The layout (most holes anyway) is very nice and they have kept the greens up since they worked over the course a few years back.

the greens are in poor condition (Roy Kizer is the sister course & their greens are worse - & it costs more to play there- fairways & t boxes are ok...but the greens look like they spread dead grass on the green, rolled w/a a heavy roller & spray painted it green......sad... : (

A muny that makes you think now and then; when was the last time you had to think about a 100-yard par 3? The crowned, shallow green of the 5th will make you appreciate precision--or not! Some greens aren't very receptive, seemingly by design; others are fighting some kind of fungal virus; still others are fighting neglect by the course's shot spraying, slow-playing, t-shirt wearing, hacker clientele. Despite all that, Jimmy Clay will never be far from the best of the City of Austin's municipal courses. After all, Kizer is just next door! Seriously though, Jimmy Clay is a good place to learn the art of vizualizing your shot.
