Detailed description of Lakewood Country Club

Lakewood Country Club is a Private 18 hole golf course located in Dallas, Texas.

Lakewood Country Club first opened for play in 1912. The course was designed by Tom Bendelow, 

Ralph Plummer, a Texan with a knack for bringing out the best a site has to offer, worked his magic in 1947. 

In 1995, the team of Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore renovated  Lakewood. Crenshaw, a Plummer aficionado, knew just how and where to improve the gem Bendelow laid out and Plummer reinvigorated. 

In 2003 Coore and Crenshaw returned to resurface the greens with a new bent grass. They further updated the golf course by adding seven new fairway bunkers and two new back tees. This work provided another step in the progress of the historic golf course.

#1 lulls you into a false sense of confidence with its average 330-yard downhill opener, which the big hitters should attack as a par hole. 

#2, 3, and 4 are the most challenging holes and can destroy the round just as you are warming up. 

#2 doglegs left for 432 yards along an out-of-bounds line into a green that is surrounded by bunkers. 

#3 is longer, again dog-legging left, this time with bunkers and a creek on the lefty side. #4 is a solid 554 yard par-5.

#7 is the signature hole, a 205-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot from off an elevated tee box over a pond to a well-bunkered green framed by oak trees

The shorter back side eases up some, with only one average length par 5 and a short par 3. The 400 yard par 4s on the back nine will challenge.
